Understanding executive presence v. influence

Understanding executive presence v. influence

Hi Reader,

Executive presence and influence are like the dynamic duo of leadership, each helping you to supercharge your career in different ways. But what are they, exactly? Personally, I’ve found both of these concepts to be a bit nebulous at times. The phrase, “You know it when you see it” comes to mind, but they can be hard to define.

💡 Tip of the Day

Today, I’d like you to understand some of the key differences so that you’re making sure you’re learning the skill you need right now.

Influence allows you to affect someone’s actions, decisions, or beliefs (in either a positive or negative way), whereas executive presence focuses more on how others see you (for example, are you charismatic, likable, confident, etc.?).

Here’s one step you can take to work on both:

Do a communication audit. Are you using minimizing language? Figure out how you can exude more authority and confidence through the way you communicate.
