Unemployment in Civil Engineering Graduates Predicament?
Civil Engineering is not a technician’s trade, it’s an art. - Leon Crie
Civil Engineering is the backbone of the infrastructure development
"Why is there an opportunity crisis, and why are so many civil engineering graduates unemployed?"
Hung up on Mob-mentality
Currently, the mob mentality is taking our new generation to the field which is now too saturated & that is the reason even employed people are ranting about their job & their lifestyle which is not happening. As mentioned above, civil engineering is the backbone & a backbone consists of 33 individual bones stacked one on top of the other, similarly, civil engineering also consists of many fields like Building, Highways, Geotechnical, Structure, Environmental, Dams, etc but the mob-mentality is just focusing on one bone i.e., Building or Highway. It is not wrong to build a career in that but there are many other sub-fields that are less explored & carry great potential but the mob mentality, makes these fields unexplored.
Lack of Awareness
Due to unawareness, people who want to make a great career are failing as the competition is too high to grow, in this situation, one must explore other fields

Growth is as slow as a snail.
If a person builds up his career in an established company, then the chances of his learning, and his career growth in terms of both position and financials comparatively at a low rate. The justification is just doodled as it already has a set of tasks assigned & being in the established company you are not allowed or do not have the access to explore & learn instead at times it becomes monotonous. As the saturation level is high because it is ubiquitous, the competition is too high resulting in a low growth rate. This is a major cause of dissatisfaction among the people
Dud Education System
When we have discussed all these factors, it is equally important to put some light on the education system as well. Now here comes the crucial strand, as the Engineering institutions provide us with quality but theoretical education whereas the need of the industry is a candidate with competent practical & theoretical skills
To conclude, it can be said that these are some of the main factors that are stumbling blocks in the way of getting the best opportunities for the emerging talents in our country and allowing them to contribute to this field up to their higher potential.
