According to legend, Vithal resided in Pandharpur, a town in Maharashtra. It is believed that a devotee named Pundalik, known for his selfless devotion to his aged parents, captured the attention of Lord Krishna. Pleased with Pundalik's devotion, Lord Krishna decided to visit him in the form of Vithal. Pundalik was granted the privilege of serving Vithal, and the deity's temple in Pandharpur became a center of worship.

Rukmini, Krishna's beloved consort, is also revered alongside Vithal. The story of Rukmini's devotion to Krishna is immortalized in Hindu scriptures, particularly the epic Mahabharata. Rukmini's unwavering love and loyalty to Krishna symbolize the devotion of a devotee towards the divine.

Devotees from various walks of life visit the Vithal-Rukmini temple in Pandharpur to seek blessings, offer prayers, and participate in religious festivities.
