Very Many Small Things

Very Many Small Things

The week of Very Many Small Things. That type of week where you don't know which scrappy piece of paper has actually the single most important thing you need to do on it! This week I have very many small things to do, like last week and perhaps the week before. Very Many Small Things though, are also easy. They are satisfying, you tick them off quickly, you've done it, you've move forward and you didn't have to think too much - you just did it.

This is the very essence of the One Small Thing campaign we will be promoting as we relaunch Tech4Good South West network this week. A call to action to commit to change, to inspire collective action across the South West to harness tech for good.

Prioritising inclusion and skills, our definition of tech for good refers to the intentional use of digital technology to generate positive outcomes for people and the planet, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate and thrive in a digital world.

This idea that everyone can make a difference, and it only takes one small thing to get us started - giving advice, donating time, resources, space - to get us moving and sensing as if we are moving forward. Moving forward feels GOOD.

Our new identity amplifies the good, that tech can be an enabler to positive outcomes for people and planet. A huge thank you to Emma Millington and Adam Millington for bringing the new brand to life.

Networking is 100% alive

Building on my reflections last week of connection and networks, the relaunch in Bristol this week couldn't have ever come to life without people I've met coming forward and backing this ambition. I will be forever grateful to each and every one of you.

The power of networking, this couldn't be any more visible at the relaunch of Tech4Good South West this week. The positive energy in the room was like nothing I've experienced at previous events. The time is now. I'm so hopeful that the incredible Bristol community will take the lead in shaping how we need to come together, to galvanise action amongst each other, and to commit to 7 Guiding Principles for Tech4Good South West to serve as a foundational compass to amplify our impact across the community.

  1. Inclusivity and Accessibility
  2. Ethical Use of Data
  3. Protecting the planet
  4. Empowering Innovation
  5. Regional collaboration
  6. Capacity building
  7. Continuous improvement

The continuous improvement being about us, as a community, constantly learning, supporting each other and putting wider community benefit at the heart of everything we do.

Becoming a member of Tech4Good South West, perhaps that very first step, by committing to the Guiding Principles, and finding that next one small thing that YOU can do.

I am so very proud to be steering Tech4Good South West forward, but I am even prouder that the #Bristol #Bath community are ready to also take this forward - to realise the ambition that Tech4Good South West is simply the catalyst, the foundational structure for sustained momentum to amplify the tech for good agenda.

Join us!

Until next time,
