Video-Wall or LED-Wall ?
Is it better to install a video-wall or a led-screen?
This is the most common question usually asked to consultants and designers when the customer has to choose the visual communication solution that best suits its needs.
But the answer does not exist!
The answer does not exist because a lot of information is needed to define the best solution, between video-wall and led-wall, to be proposed to the customer. It is therefore the task of the designer, who has the necessary skills, to identify and weigh all the technical aspects of the project and guide the customer towards the solution with the best value for money without being influenced by the fashions of the moment, special offers or being convinced by hasty choices.
A good consultant is able to interview the client to obtain a precise vision of the final goal which is sometimes unknown even to the client himself. It is necessary to identify the main commercial and technical needs which, in many cases, have not been taken into consideration by the customer, but are essential to best represent the basic idea.
How big should the screen be? What installation constraints are there? How bright is the environment? Are there any accessibility problems? What kind of video content are we going to show? Is the standard 16:9 aspect ratio suitable or would an artistic solution be more appreciated? Is curvature required? What are the supply time constraints?
Each of these aspects, which are only the main ones, should be discussed with the customer or his technical representatives to understand the real needs and propose the most suitable solution.
And we only started. We must also try to imagine the life of the screen in the short and medium term.
Could an expansion be needed? What kind of maintenance do we foresee? Is it possible to hit the screen and damage it? Is the screen easily accessible in case of failure? Should a preventive maintenance plan be defined? Who works in case of failure?
If we know all this information and we can get a precise idea of the main customer expectations, even those not initially expressed, only then will we be able to give a professional answer.
And all this just to decide whether to propose a video-wall or a led-wall.
Once defined this we will have done only the first step and we will have to start thinking, in the first case about size, frames, brightness, interfaces, ... and in the second case about pixel pitch, panel size, display ratio, refresh rate, brightness , ...
What are the main features in an importance ranking?
In a profit-oriented business, the first thing to consider is the budget. If the customer has not yet discussed the problem, it is important to define it together so as to avoid wasting a lot of time on projects that will then prove impossible.
After that, the resolution, size, brightness and aspect ratio are the information that most force the choice in the video-wall direction rather than the led-wall.
The expected date and place of installation, the accessibility of the workplace during and after the operations, the availability of support structures, the curvature and weight constraints will also be indispensable information that could shift the choice.
It is therefore essential that the customer understands that the choice between video-wall and led-wall is not easy, especially since it is an investment whose estimated life spans from five to fifteen years. He therefore trust an expert designer who considers the main and secondary aspects both during installation and after sales to provide the most suitable solution.
