Viewpoint: It Doesn’t Cost Much to Give us a Try
As we do twice a year, we are sending over 3000 additional copies of the View to non-subscribers in Pueblo County. We would like you to be a subscriber. Not only are we sending you a free copy so you get an idea of what we are all about, but we have a special price going on for the newspaper.
Instead of $37.50/year for the print copy of the paper, we are currently charging $25/year. If you would rather see the E-edition each week, that price has been lowered from $25/year. to $10/year. Can’t hardly go wrong with that for a weekly newspaper.
In fact, we’ve been putting out a weekly newspaper for over 15 years. We’ve never missed an issue. We have run into a snag or two in the last 780+ weeks, but those have been few and far between. If I am remembering right, one time we had a major printing error causing one week’s paper to be delivered a day after the next week’s paper in an area or two. Can you see how embarrassed I am?
Once you are a subscriber, we really do want to know what you like and what you don’t. In fact, in this week’s paper, you will find an article entitled, “What Our Readers Say”, to learn about how people feel about the newspaper.
Over the years, we have evolved with our readers; and, there are a few things we will probably never change.
Of course, we always have readers with strong opinions both ways. You will note that one person responded that the thing they see too much of is politics. A few lines down someone said, “Thank you for interviewing political candidates and publishing this information.”
When the Pueblo Chieftain changed from a family-owned newspaper to a member of the largest newspaper conglomerate in the country, we tried to pick up some of the slack and cover the candidates, especially in the more local elections. We are probably going to continue doing that. We feel that an informed electorate will make better voting decisions than an uninformed electorate.
With the exception of the Letters to the Editor and the Viewpoint on page 2, we try to keep everything in the paper factual. I should mention that the entire staff of the Greenhorn Valley View consists of myself, my wife, Lori, and one writer who works part-time. We don’t have a professional fact checker on the staff, but we do what we can.

As you can see in the article I mentioned, people said a lot of really nice things. We love our readers but we want more of them. We hope that if you give us a try, you will continue to be a reader for a long time.
I want to comment on one other comment that one of our readers sent us. “Upcoming activities posted earlier, so we can attend.” We try to keep up with things happening in the area. One thing we added about 18 months ago was an events calendar on our website, www.greenhornvalleyview.com. We keep this as current as possible throughout the week, along with page 4 in the newspaper each week.
We print all Letters to the Editor as long as you cooperate with the guidelines. We do agree with the right for everyone to have an opinion and the freedom to air it in a public forum. We will never change that. We don’t let you name local people, although you can mention me on your letter. I’m fair game if you disagree with me.
I really hope you take a chance and spend $10-$25 on a yearly subscription for the Greenhorn Valley View. We love what we are doing and welcome thoughts and ideas. I would say we have pretty conservative, traditional values; and that we are open to you expressing your values. Give us a try.
