ViVE 2024: Key highlights and takeaways

ViVE stands out as one of the few events offering profound insights into the evolving digital health landscape. ViVE 2024 lived up to its reputation and did not disappoint

From integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in diagnostics to leveraging data analytics to improve patient care, industry thought leaders participated in panels and breakout sessions on the hottest trends shaping the future of healthcare.

HTEC’s health experts, Nemanja Kovačev, Head of Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice, and Susan Protos, Healthcare Industry Advisor, were there to delve into the insightful discussions, explore cutting-edge technology, assess market-ready solutions, and make meaningful connections with healthcare’s thought leaders.

Here are the top highlights from ViVE 2024 through the eyes of our experts:

Healthcare on Air podcast — Insightful discussion between HTEC and Verizon

Nemanja Kovačev joined Robin Goldsmith, Global Lead of Connected Health & Innovation at Verizon Business, on Verizon’s Healthcare on Air podcast. They discussed the future of surgery and the critical challenges standing in the way of full technology integration in operating rooms (ORs). While medical devices are widely used, the seamless integration of these devices into existing healthcare frameworks is still hindered by connectivity issues.

Both agreed that AI and 5G will provide the magic touch necessary for full integration and automation of healthcare systems. Nemanja and Robin also touched upon the technical and medical challenges of integration, and explored the benefits of a holistic approach to patient care that integrates hospitals, transportation, and home environments.

Other key questions and takeaways from the conversation included the technical feasibility of combining disparate systems, the importance of ensuring data security and privacy, and how to optimize medical workflows for better patient outcomes.

Seamlessly integrating technology into medical workflows with minimal latency is key for successfully adopting future technologies in the OR.” - Nemanja Kovačev

HealthXL panel — The ascent and decline of digital health

The HealthXL panel "The Rise and Tumble of Digital Health: Will 2024 be Different?" delved into the most pressing issues shaping the future of healthcare. Here’s what the panel members discussed:

With many startups experiencing declining cash reserves, industry leaders on the panel — Robert Garber (Partner, 7wire Ventures), Lisa Fitzpatrick (CEO, Grapevine Health), and Adam Kaufman (Interim Project Lead at Mayo Clinic) explored how healthcare systems continue to invest in rising startups, revolutionary technologies, and new business models. They also shed light on funding strategies and advised on fundraising timing.

Strategic partnerships play a critical role in building transformative health solutions

Apart from discussions about the future of digital health, strategic partnerships took center stage at HealthXL. Matching medical expertise with breakthrough technologies will drive progress, improving patient outcomes and shaping the future of healthcare.

Here’s what Susan had to say after meeting Dr. Eyal Zimlichman, CIO at Sheba Medical Center

Meeting Dr. Eyal Zimlichman was a transformative experience. His commitment to revolutionizing healthcare underscores a deep-seated belief: innovation transcends technology — it hinges on collaboration and impactful execution.”

Innovation centers will be the main disruptors of the health industry

Innovation centers are disrupting the health industry by investing heavily in AI initiatives to revolutionize the patient care experience. Their goal is to improve patient communication, navigation, and engagement while also increasing safety, efficiency, and quality of care. They believe the shift towards personalized patient experiences will streamline hospital workflows.

In 2023, the healthcare technology sector showcased remarkable advancements, underscoring its potential to transform healthcare delivery. As we look ahead, collaboration, innovation, and patient-centric approaches will be critical drivers of positive change, aligning with insights from the HealthXL Roundtable and highlighting the importance of investing in digital health to meet patient needs and drive industry growth.” - Susan Protos
