Vivir Para Dar

Let me tell you a personal story. Some time ago, I was reading my devotional, which was about prayer, and the writer asked the question, "If God answered everything you asked for in your last prayer positively, what would have changed in your life, in the lives of the people around you, in your city, in your nation, in the world?"
That's when I realized that I was living my life only to serve myself. Even in my conversations with God, the central focus was me. This made me realize that my natural tendency is to seek to receive more. In relationships, at work, in finances, etc., I’ve always had this inclination to want to receive more and more. You might identify with me and be realizing that you approach life this way too. Becoming aware of this radically changed my perspective on how I live. I realized that if I wanted to win in life, I needed to learn to live differently, and things had to change:

1. We all have something to give. The first thing I need to be aware of is what I have to give. You might think that right now, you don’t have resources to give, but the reality is that we all have something to offer. It could be time, active listening, love, affirmation, money, resources, contacts, smiles, hugs, encouragement, comfort, service, help, feedback, etc. We all have the capacity to give to others. Don’t underestimate what you have.
2. I can’t give what I don’t have. Now, while there are things you can naturally give, it’s also advisable to actively seek to keep growing in knowledge, wisdom, experiences, skills, resources, relationships, etc. Having a giving attitude forces you to examine what you have to offer and motivates you to seek to expand those resources. Let’s be intentional about continuing to grow in our ability to give.
3. Start now. Don’t wait until you have it all to start giving. Remember that if you start giving today, you’ll also create space to keep receiving. Who can you serve today? How can you help someone today? The faster you begin the process, the sooner you’ll see the benefits of living a life of service. Start now!
This change in perspective has been fundamental, not only in my life but also in the lives of many people who sparked significant changes throughout history. We were created to collaborate, to find personal meaning in interactions and in serving others. Don’t miss the opportunity to see what living to serve can do for your life, your leadership, and your legacy.
The challenge this week is to shift from being someone who seeks to receive to someone who seeks to GIVE.
Make it a great week!
Much love!
