Volunteering during the festive season

Volunteering during the festive season

Volunteering is the ultimate act of kindness. It fills our cup and gives us a sense of purpose knowing that we’ve contributed our time to a good cause and made a difference in the lives of others. This is especially meaningful during the Christmas period, when those experiencing hardship are most in need of compassion and support.

AV is one of Victoria's largest community services providers, with more than 1,800 volunteers working to strengthen communities across the state. From serving meals for the homeless and running homework clubs to helping at fundraising events, our volunteers are on the ground supporting our grassroots programs, making sure vulnerable Victorians get the help they need. Each year, our Toy Appeal relies on the generosity of volunteers to help us give the gift of hope to children at Christmas.

Volunteering during Christmas is a powerful way to give back to the community. It’s also an opportunity for us to reflect on our own privilege and how much we take for granted, so we can empathise with those who may not be so lucky. While Christmas is a happy time for many, others may be struggling with homelessness, food insecurity, and financial pressures. They may be worried about keeping a roof over their heads or stressed about not being able to afford gifts for their children.

If you haven’t volunteered before, now is a great time to start! Christmas is the season of giving and your contribution could have a positive impact on families in need of hope and support this year.

If you’re passionate about supporting vulnerable people in the community we’d love to hear from you! There are a whole range of volunteering opportunities available during our Toy Appeal this Christmas, including packing, sorting, collecting and delivering donated toys and gifts. If you’re interested, contact Penny Mitchell – Relationship Manager at toys@anglicarevic.org.au.
