We All Want to Make That Sale

We All Want to Make That Sale

Are You Good at Sales?

How do we know if we are good at sales? Good is a starting point, obviously over time we become more efficient and able to sell more.

Little did I know way back in time, 1998/99 that I was not cut out to be in sales. One of the three jobs I worked at after my first diagnosis of cancer was a vacuum sales person. Yep, me! This type of sales involved cold calling. I would sit in the office of the company, go through a long list, read out the script I was given, and phone strangers. Oh sorry, I mean the target market of the company.

Most people ended the call really after the first sentence, "Hello my name is Linda are you the home owner"?

Surprising enough I got a few people to agree to me visiting their home, cleaning their carpet, and sharing details of the products I was trying to sell to them. I really disliked this type of selling. I call it the "twisting their arm behind their back" to persuade them to purchase something they either did not need, want or could afford!

There is a lot more to this story, but for the purpose of this post, sales way back then was not my thing, and even though I did manage to sell 6 products, with the help of a manager trainer, I soon left that job, deciding it was not for me.

If you have to sell products and services there are a couple of tips I would like to share with you.

1. If you work for an organization that offers the script, at least find out the homeowners name, at the least. Otherwise, how about assuming you are speaking to the owner of the property ( unless its a burglar) and talk to them in a friendly polite manner.

2. If you can sell without a script, for your own business or work for an organization, be authentic. First and foremost know your target market. Find out as much about the people you are contacting. Above all do not be pushy or rude.

The above tips are simple and to most people obvious, but not to all.

We are all in sales in some way so I prefer to be who I am, I walk my talk, I am honest, authentic, and I prefer not to rush a sale.

I love helping others, so if you want some more tips I am offering a 1 hour complimentary mentoring session, but only for some time lots in March, 2023.
