We are one community

We are one community

I've spent this week in the company of others.

The successful, the aspiring, the struggling, the driven, the curious, the dreamers and the doers.

This is my community.

What bonds us is the desire to "do something", to reject the status quo because we know things can be better.

These heroes inspire me, empower me and remind me that I must do more.

These like-minded souls will listen when I share my vision and critically they ask only how they can assist in this task.

I feel sometimes overcome with emotion at the level of support I receive and in turn, feel honour bound to ensure that I offer this same support to others.

I am humbled by the understanding I receive when I "drop the ball", forget to respond or miss a deadline.

You understand that this is to be expected when taking on a large challenge and rather than criticise you again repeat "How can we help".

Because

- You know we cannot make our dreams a reality alone.
- We must be brave and ask for help.
- Because together there is nothing we cannot achive!

1. Why Community matters to me

Here I use this TEDx talk to share my ideas for community and why this subject is critical when building ecosystems and driving change.

2. We are not fortune tellers!

It is time to accept that a business plan, no matter how well-researched is simply "our best guess". So let's stop criticizing the founder for failing to hit milestones in the plan and instead ask how we can help.

3. Podcast

I was interviewed this week as part of a series of events held during Scottish International Week by Ewan Dunbar of Scottish Business Network . I used the opportunity to share my experience of living the life of an entrepreneur.

I had the privelage this week to interview my good friend Fraser Morrison one of the leading experts on how to win with LinkedIn . You can listen to a replay of this interview here.

The Week Ahead

This week: I'll be in Scotland Monday through Thursday splitting my time between Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling.

Then I have 12 days on the road promoting Scotland and building support as we prepare to implement our plans to scale Scottish Business Network and secure additional support for those initiatives we support.

December 1 through 5: I will be in Seoul, During this trip I will be speaking at the Foster Bridge Investment and Entrepreneur Conference and meeting with various leaders in the Korean entrepreneurial ecosystem.

December 7 and 8: I join my fellow Scots in Alexandria Virginia for the Scottish North American Community Conference and to attend the Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk and Parade.

December 9 through 11: Up to New York for a range of meetings and events.

If any of my travels coincide when you are in town then please reach out and we can meet up.

Could not agree more. It’s a problem though that business people do not realise that scale only comes when someone else is doing it and you move to the next thing. It’s hard but got to be done.
