“We are the ones we have been waiting for” (poet June Jordan)

“We are the ones we have been waiting for” (poet June Jordan)

I don’t want to have to tell my kids I have seen what is happing, but I didn’t do anything! That is the powerful extrinsic motivation, the powerful intrinsic motivation is that I believe we can all do much better!

I want to be able to look them in the eye and tell them this is what I did. Even if I eventually failed or didn’t achieve what I liked to achieve, at least I tried! Giving them the ability to enjoy the same freedoms and beautiful things we have now!

Everyone tells me it is too idealistic, you will fail, you can’t change, it this is just how it works. But this just fuels my desire to push even harder and show everyone that I don’t believe that, and everything can be changed even though it takes some time. I this case “Every journey starts with the first step” is a powerful argument. if you do nothing you stay in the same place!

I know that deep down we all want to do better and be better but than life gets in the way and we choose convenience over right. We feel guilty about it and we try to justify it by saying we don’t have time, work all day, tired, the kids were acting up, it so much more expensive... and so on! But there is this saying that the military uses:

“if you see someone do something that is below standard and you let it go, you have set a new standard”!

And let me tell you I’m nowhere near perfect, I fall in this same trap constantly! But I’m truly optimistic that I think that we can create a better world where we don’t get pulled into making decisions that we know deep down are wrong, because of advertising and wrong messaging and stories that we have been told!

Stories are very powerful and can light the spark that will change the world I don’t want to be waiting on someone to do it, I want to be the one doing it!
