Rosewood restores an iconic hotel in Madrid, an all-villa Jumeriah resort opens in the Maldives and a new UK hotel is named “the hottest staycation of the summer” by Tatler. Rosewood Villa Magna | Opens 22 October 2021
SPAIN: It’s official. “Madrid is the hottest place to travel right now,” says Suzannah Ramsdale in the Evening Standard. Helping put the Spanish capital centre stage is “a clutch of hot hotel openings” (Evening Standard) with Rosewood Villa Magna among them. The launch - a “complete refurbishment” (Forbes) of an “iconic property” (Forbes) - is one of “12 fall hotel openings” The Points Guy is looking forward to this autumn. “Celebrated Spanish architect” (Architectural Digest) Ramón de Arana is remodelling the hotel’s exteriors, BAR Studio is overseeing the interior design and “three Michelin-starred chef Jesús Sánchez” (Evening Standard) is heading up the hotel’s restaurant. New amenities at the 154-room property include the Sense spa - “sure to become one of the hottest wellness spots in the city” (Evening Standard).

Jumeirah Maldives | Opens 1 October 2021
MALDIVES: Jumeirah, the Dubai-based brand behind “the iconic” (Vogue Arabia) Burj Al Arab hotel, is opening an all-villa hotel where “private butlers and overwater villas are the norm” (Travel + Leisure). Located in the North Malé Atoll of the Maldives, “unique submarine tours” (Conde Nast Traveller Middle East) and a spa with “six overwater treatment rooms” (Conde Nast Traveller) are part of the package. Its 67 “generously sized” (Conde Nast Traveller) beach villas and bungalows have been given “a zen-like vibe” by “sophisticated Singaporean design studio” (Conde Nast Traveller) Miaja. Villas have a private pool and rooftop terrace while the most luxe come with “docking space for a 90ft boat” (Conde Nast Traveller).

Oakley Court Windsor | Opened June 2021
UK: Dubbed “the hottest staycation of the summer” by Tatler, Oakley Court has been “newly souped up with maximalist boho-chic verve” (The Guardian). Name checked by Conde Nast Traveller as one of “The Best New Hotels in the U.K.”, the “gloriously gothic” (Forbes) 188-room Victorian hotel near Windsor has been given “a total overhaul” (The Times) by “stylish Brit” (Vogue) Alex Eagle, it “opened up to rave reviews this summer” (Tatler). Gone is the corporate conference hotel, now replaced by “a harmony of chandeliers, chintzy vases” (The Times) and “big and comfy” (Conde Nast Traveller) beds. Its “gorgeous riverside gardens” (The Guardian) lead down to the river where Soho House outpost, the Summer River House, is “a particular draw” (Tatler).

Evora Farm Hotel & Spa | Opened July 2021
PORTUGAL: If you're looking for “countryside-chic in the heart of the Alentejo” (Forbes) Evora Farm Hotel & Spa offers an “educational farm” (Architectural Digest), spa and “far-reaching views of the countryside” (The i Paper). One of “The New Mediterranean Hot Spots for a Luxury Vacation” recommended by Architectural Digest, the €4.7 million hotel offers “swimming pools and gardens, an olive grove and orchard” (The i Paper). Set on close to 30 acres of land, “about 90 minutes east of Lisbon” (Architectural Digest), it has “minimalist decor” (Architectural Digest) with “light tones and natural woods” (Architectural Digest). Head to the nearby city of Evora to experience “a living museum replete with a Roman temple and Gothic cathedral” (The i Paper).

The Langham, Jakarta | Opened 9 September 2021
INDONESIA: Arriving at The Langham, Jakarta, guests are greeted by “a magnificent chandelier” decorated with “3,000 fluttering crystal butterflies” (Conde Nast Traveller Middle East). The latest ultra-luxury hotel in Indonesia’s capital offers 65 floors of stylish and contemporary accommodation, including “the 3,600-square-foot presidential suite” (Travel + Leisure) which has “its own butler service” (Travel + Leisure). Rooms are decorated in “neutral hues, cozy furnishings, sleek decor” (Travel + Leisure) and come with high-end amenities. Tom Aikens, whose Muse restaurant was recently named “London’s ‘top gastronomic experience’” (Evening Standard) is in charge of the European restaurant on the 62nd floor.
