Week Recap

Week Recap

This week was "Inside Out". We spent time internally within our teams to recalibrate and plan towards the future of our business. It was also an opportunity to have conversations with the wider Space Sector like the Space Generation Advisory Council , encouraging younger talent and challenging them to create change for a better sector, forging stronger partnerships with partners like ND SATCOM and empowering next-generation leaders through space and technology-these point to moments when collaboration and innovation come into their own. It's been one of those weeks of reflection, learning, and envisioning a bright future for Nigeria through the tools of technology and creativity.

Starting with the handing over of the National Health Insurance Authority solution at Galaxy Backbone Data Center to the client . The solution built by a team lead by NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE LIMITED (NIGCOMSAT) is to enhance health delivery for citizens of Nigeria.

Handing Over NHIA to GBB

We started the week with a special event where we handed over the National Health Insurance Authority of Nigeria (NHIA) Data Center at Galaxy Backbone (GBB). This data center is a big part of the e-NHIS System Development and Infrastructure Renewal project, which is focused on improving healthcare access through technology.

NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE LIMITED (NIGCOMSAT) in this case was a midwife, we were the bridge to connect everyone involved. First, we handed the data center over to Hon. Segun Olulade , Galaxy Backbone’s Executive Director for Customer Centricity and Marketing. He then passed it on to the Director General of the NHIA, Dr. Kelechi Ohiri.

This moment also showed GBB’s role as more than a service provider—they are a true solution provider. I believe that this kind of collaboration just shows how technology can help solve real-world problems, making life better for everyone.

Presentation by ND SAT

At NIGCOMSAT, as we work hard to ensure we meet the service level agreements we strive for with our clients, we focus on making our infrastructure reliable. In line with our drive for business continuity, we hosted one of our partners, ND Satcom Inc, for a technical session as we explored more modern and reliable solutions for our current infrastructure.

Our technical teams continue to work diligently with our partners to deliver the enhanced service and reliable infrastructure that we promise.

Visit to the NIGCOMSAT Lagos Office

Giving a quick shout out to Hajiya Adama Kure for visiting the NIGCOMSAT Lagos Business Regional Office and the Teleport. She is the Executive Director of Finance and Administration.

During her visit, she met with the team to see how things are running and talked about ways we can grow and do better. She also took time to meet important partners in Lagos, like Infratel Africa , to build stronger partnerships that match NIGCOMSAT’s goal of bringing new ideas and better connections to Nigeria.

This just goes to show how much we care about working together and improving our services for our clients and partners.

Signing of the Departmental Performance Management Bond

Moving on, something really important happened at NIGCOMSAT. The Management team and the Heads of Directorates and Departments came together to sign what’s called the Departmental Performance Management Bond. Sounds formal, right? But here’s what it means in simple terms.

This bond is like a promise. It helps everyone stay on the same page by connecting each department’s goals to the big dreams of the company. Think of it as a guide that shows what each team needs to focus on, how to measure success, and when to get things done.

By signing this, everyone agrees to be responsible for their work and to give their best to meet the targets. It’s a great way to make sure every part of the company is working together to achieve something big. Plus, it teaches the value of teamwork and being accountable—skills that are super useful in any part of life!

NIGCOMSAT office hosted the 8th African Space Generation Workshop

On Thursday, our NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE LIMITED (NIGCOMSAT) office hosted the 8th African Space Generation Workshop, organized by the Space Generation Advisory Council . This workshop brought young passionate minds that are passionate about space exploration and its potential to tackle real-world challenges. One of the key discussions focused on how satellites can help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For instance, satellites play a big role in monitoring climate change, tracking deforestation, and even improving disaster response by providing timely data. Isn’t it amazing how space technology connects directly to the well-being of people and the planet.

I had the wonderful opportunity to share my journey in the communication and space industry with the participants.

We've seen a wave of countries establish their first space agencies, including some represented here. Right now, over 40 countries are collaborating to explore the Moon, whether under the Artemis Accords by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration or China's lunar research station initiative. More countries than ever have “space plans"

Workshops like this remind us that space exploration isn’t just about going to the moon or Mars. It’s about solving problems right here on Earth. By inspiring young professionals and students to dream big and stay committed, we’re building a future where Africa plays a key role in the global space industry. The energy, ideas, and passion shared at this event prove that when the time comes, we’ll be more than ready to rise to the challenge.

The Space Lab Club UNN Visit to NIGCOMSAT

The space Economy currently valued at 500 Billion has Africa valued at 10billion USD. Funding, Policy and People/Capacity continue to remain the main challenges for African countries seeking to participate in this sector. We cannot over emphasize the importance of Space Technology that directly contributes to 40% of the SDG goals for Africa . From Education, Climate, Food (Agriculture ), Satellites and space Technology cannot be over looked.

More importantly, I encouraged everyone to see themselves as future leaders in Africa’s growing space sector. Proud to that the members of Spacelawclub UNN present as well. To all the young space enthusiasts ,this is about preparing ourselves to contribute to a bigger vision when opportunities arise.
