Weekly Recap, May 30th - June 5th 2022

Greetings and salutations!

Here's all my thoughtfully curated LinkedIn posts for last week...plus a few extras thrown in for the hell of it.

Ready? Because here it comes!

"Companies who move the quickest have the most runway and are most likely to avoid the death spiral. Do the cut exercise (projects, R&D, marketing, other expenses). It doesn't mean you have to pull the trigger, but that you are ready to do it in the next 30 days if needed." ✂️

Hot take from the May 2005 issue of Fortune magazine. 😬

"The people who produced the inflation trying to find scapegoats for their own deficiencies". 🐐

"Private-fund managers say inflows of money from wealthy individual investors have increased this year, and asset managers expect the trend to continue as higher interest rates and inflation weigh on publicly traded assets." 💵

“Since 1970 funds focused on private companies had delivered an 18% annual return, compared with 11% for listed securities.” 📈

"I wouldn’t even put your money with Cathie Wood. She is part of the problem. She invests in every shitco going. Cathie Wood is the opposite of a short seller — she’s a capital depleter." 📉

"Accelerator programs at platform funds are primarily marketing exercises. The goal is to remind the world that these funds still write first checks and to attract a wave of hopeful applicants. The really good ones will get $10M checks off the bat. The rest are marketing fodder." 💰

Newbie VC who deployed his fund in less than 18 months and is sick of hearing all the I told you so’s from VCs who’ve been in a downturn before, and a VC who’s been through several downturns. 👸

'Creative Bureaucracy'...ah, Europe Europing. 😉

Recently heard from two "deep tech" VCs at generalist European VC firms who've gotten government backing to do deep tech deals (🤦🏻♂️), who've been told by their ICs to never look at hardware deals (🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️). 🤷🏼♂️

"Venture doesn’t necessarily correlate with listed tech, and that correlation is weakest in the early stage, while the exit is still many years away." 🎯

34 unicorns created last month globally: 20 in the US, 5 in Asia, 5 in Europe, 3 in LatAm, and 1 in Africa. 🦄

This 💯. Startup programs that insist on pairing PhDs with MBAs have a serious design flaw. It's not about who has which degree, but who has which skills. 👩🔬

"The Lux co-founders are excited about two specific investment themes for the next few years..." 🚀
