What 2022 Has Taught Me

What 2022 Has Taught Me

Recently I took a week-long holiday with my family.

It was an amazing chance to rest, bond with my kids and husband, and to reflect on the kind of year 2022 has been.

2022 has definitely been a year of high highs, and challenges that many would say that are great for character development.

The year kicked off with catching covid and health struggles haven’t seemed to stop coming since whether it’s sinus infections, colds, or just not feeling 100%.

Which meant that I really had to prioritise what parts of my business I devoted my energy to and decide what could be outsourced and what that would look like.

The last few months have seen our team grow and grow, with training and processes put at the forefront of everything we did.

And what all those challenges and growing pains meant was…

This week-long holiday actually felt like a holiday.

I didn’t get on my laptop.

I wasn’t anxiously checking messages or social media to make sure everything was running smoothly.

I actually got to step away from my business for a whole week and leave it in the hands of my team.

And I had to trust them to keep the wheels turning.

To trust that they cared for my business just as much as I did.

And do you know what happened?

Everything ran smoothly.

There were no disasters.

No emergencies.

Just little messages reminding me to enjoy my holiday, or to let me know that things were still going on behind the scenes.

And this process wasn’t easy.

Giving up control and leaving my business in the hands of others was a thought that terrified me throughout this whole journey.

But now that I’ve reached this point, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

And the best part.

All while this was happening, we’ve been growing.

The whole team has been helping more and more women to elevate their business and also be able to enjoy their holidays.

How long has it been since you were actually able to enjoy your time off without worrying about your business?

Don’t let your business become the shackles around your ankles, get yourself sorted so you can be present in the rest of your life too.

I usually struggle with switching off from work - like you I love what I do and it's almost an addiction for me. I crave the high of seeing everything come together and too often try to cram too much into my schedule so that on holidays I'm still in catch-up mode, or I find myself ruminating on what I could/should build in the future. Recent challenges though have made me better at switching off. There is only so much we can cram into a day and as Oliver Burkeman points out in his beautiful book '4000 Weeks, Time Management for Mortals', we'll actually never get to the bottom of our inbox. (Unless perhaps, we outsource it 😊)
