What to do if your Google Business Profile verification video can’t be uploaded

Have you been trying to upload a Google Business Profile verification video and despite your best efforts are met with the following message: “Your video can’t be loaded”? This article shares our top tips to ensure your video can be uploaded successfully.

We advise all of our clients to have a fully optimised Google Business Profile.  Back in the days of Google My Business, the verification process was often done by phone call (if you were lucky) or an old fashioned post card to prove that you are a genuine business with an actual location. Now it is much more likely that you will need to verify your Google Business Profile with a verification video.

Google provides some guidelines for these videos, but a major factor to consider when it comes to uploading is the file size.  You can try recording a shorter video or recording it in a lower resolution. Google suggests the video should be less than 2 minutes long. We recommend following Google’s guidelines, which include capturing the following 3 requirements in 1 continuous recording: start with the surrounding outside areas such as street sign, show your business name printed on a permanent fixture then move inside to show where you work / proof of business. When you upload the video, Google states, “Take your time. Most successful videos are one to two minutes”. However, if you read Google’s more detailed guidelines it recommends 30 seconds – 5 minutes.

If you still can’t upload the video, we’ve found when the recording is shorter it often works.  The video must be at least 30 seconds long but can be as short as 40 seconds for it to work.  If you have been trying to load a video that is 1-2 minutes long with no success, then try making it much shorter.  Please do let us know if this works for you (along with the length of your video). Once you have uploaded the video it should only take a day or 2 for your listing to become verified (assuming you have met Google’s verification requirements).
