What does financial success even mean?

I always liked to joke that whatever I was doing in life was part of my "masterplan."

And this masterplan looked like this: I would do what it takes to have both professional and financial success as well as a loving family.

And for a while, it seems everything was more or less going according to plan (at least based on appearances). 

And that even if my life has been a string of ups and downs (just like you and everyone else, I guess…)

But in truth, I was pretty much advancing through life blind, especially when it came to the "financial success" part of the plan.

What does financial success even mean?

Many things happened, which led me to reflect on this very topic quite a bit.

Now I've finally understood what being financially successful mean: 

Put simply: it's when you have investments that generate enough money for you to live a comfortable life without having to work nor depend on anyone else. 

That's the ultimate achievement when it comes to financial success.

And sure enough, this won't happen overnight. But over several decades of investing the right amount, it just so happen to be doable.

And that's why I like the following quote by Ralph Seger

" An investor without investment objectives is like a traveller without a destination " 

– Ralph Seger, Founder of Provident Investment Management

Now that I know what my 'destination' is, I can invest every month what's needed to reach that. 

And for sure, it will take me a little while to get there… 

But at least now I'm on my way.
