What You Need to Know (Real-Time AI Translation + Zoom Fatigue is FR)

Turns out the ONLY photos I took over the holidays so far are running photos. I guess that tracks, because the sport has consumed our household's identities, personalities, and souls this year. We ran not one, but two Turkey Trots- are THAT family. We got in some beautiful chilly hilly miles in the woods, had two podium finishes, and planned an epic family running goal for 2024.

In the fleeting moments where I'm not running, I did get to catch up on the latest in tech this week:

• META introduces an AI language translation model - Can you imagine a world where you can communicate across languages in real-time translation through AI? Well well well, that recently became a closer reality with the launch of Meta’s new tool, Seamless, which is the first publicly available system that unlocks expressive cross-lingual communication. I think what is most impressive about this model is how it preserves human expression while moving so fast. Check out the demo here 👀
• Zoom Fatigue is Real - Finally….I don’t feel crazy after what I think we all have felt from being on Zoom so much since the pandemic. According to the article, “The brain and heart readings suggested that videoconferencing led to significantly greater signs of fatigue, sadness, drowsiness, and negative feelings, as well as less attention and engagement, than a face-to-face lecture.” So, let this be a call to action for us all…unplug a little over the hoilday and spend more time face to face!

As for me, I’ll know I’ll be getting in those miles. Thankful that I get to share these memories and travel so many miles with my family during this time.
