What if your resume is the reason you’re not getting hired?
Here’s the biggest mistake people make on their resume:
The resume reads like every resume in the applicant pool of 200+ people.
Nothing special, nothing different. The same as everyone else.
I have reviewed over 100,000+ resumes. What always keeps me reading someone’s resume is the first 25% of the resume. If that does not catch my attention. I move on to the next resume.
⏰ Time is everything when there is an open position.
You think you are special, and you are! Is your resume special?
We have the best case study right here.
If you are still reading, then something was different about the first 25% of this newsletter for you. You connected to the title and my opening statement. Is your resume capable of the same for a recruiter who spent their day reviewing hundreds of resumes?
Grab attention or be another resume lost in the pile.
Now that we have gotten the biggest mistake out of the way. I want to make sure we cover the blocking and tackling, too, for my football fans. You don’t get to the playoffs without being great at the fundamentals of the game.
Here are 10 fundamentals of the resume game:
A poorly optimized resume keeps you stuck in the right lane (slow lane)—forever.
The right lane is where most people start. Submitting resumes, hoping for a response.
But here’s the truth:
An average resume means average results.
Your resume is the ticket to your next interview—make sure it stands out.
Small tweaks can lead to big opportunities.
You now have the #1 reason resumes fail to land the interview and the job. And you have all the fundamentals to get your resume out of the pile into someone's hands.
Now what?
Continue being special and make sure your resume tells your special story.
That’s that, don’t overcomplicate it.
I want you to win in Q1, and you will!

5dThe first time I realized there was a massive gap in talent and resumes was when I was asked to review and edit one of my mentor’s résumé. They had more experience & professional accomplishments than I had. But they couldn’t communicate them in their resume story. It’s the big reason why I’m so passionate about this topic. And they had had their resume professionally done for $500 at the time. The year was 2016. Adjusted for inflation $657 for a resume that was not getting them hired. Send me DM if you need support getting hired.

5dPro Tip; Make your resume as dynamic as you are! Create a Personal Branding Section that you could place on CV ot the top of your resume. You don’t have to use it, but you can pull things from it to sprinkle throughout your résumé. It’s like building your own personal brand statement/vision. Use 2-3 sentences to showcase your unique skills, professional philosophy, and the impact you bring to a team. Think of it as your ‘special sauce’—something that sets you apart from every other candidate in the pile. Remember, your resume isn’t just a document; it’s your first impression. Make it unforgettable.
