Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Today I celebrate my first 10 years in SAP!

It feels like only yesterday that I was walking along the busy streets of Buenos Aires when an SAP recruiter called me and asked if it was ok to have a conversation in English. ‘Yes.i.think.it.is…ok.’ I ran to sign up for English summer lessons right after that call.

Back then it was common to ask candidates ‘Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ as a way to see if you could grow with their company. I remember how I struggled with the answer, thinking I was going to be tagged as ‘Cozy-comfort-zoner’ if I replied too plainly or ‘Chancy, explorer of the unknown’ if the reply was too ambitious. I was a bit afraid to be pigeonholed. But this guy was different, he encouraged me to paint a very detailed picture and I started daydreaming about a really cool future where I was in my thirties, experienced and accomplished, had made many friends in my career, traveled abroad, and even had a family with children and a dog!

Well, I did join the company, and 10 years later I can proudly say all of it has actually come true. Except for the dog, that was a lie. I’m a cat person, so much so that ‘Crazy cat lady’ is an earned tag.

SAP and the beautiful people in it gave me the opportunity to learn tons of new skills, try different roles, challenge myself and truly grow. After 5 years in SAP Argentina I was even given the opportunity to relocate to Europe along with husband, furniture and our two worshiped kitties. I have traveled the world, met so many wonderful customers in diverse and interesting cultures and industries and made the best of friends.

I live in England now, and having mastered the art of remote work and started a new exiting role as a Customer Engagement Executive, I sit here reflecting on the past decade with a smile on my face while my toddler dismantles the house under my glassy eyes.
