Why do the Great Minds curricula help build knowledge?

This month, we’re focusing on building knowledge—specifically, why the Great Minds® instructional materials build knowledge.

If you’d like a quick refresher on what building knowledge looks like in action, check out our research piece: “What Is a Knowledge-Building Curriculum?

Ready to jump right to it? Here are three pieces that focus on how and why our curricula build student knowledge across subjects.

We are determined to empower learners with one of the most equalizing forces out there: knowledge. High-quality, content-rich instructional materials have been found to improve student learning where skills and strategies alone fail. Why? Because new knowledge sticks best to existing knowledge.

Making connections across disciplines is a powerful way to build knowledge that makes sense and stays with students. Through intentional exposure to great works of art in math class or during other subjects, students build understanding, appreciation, and awareness of the ways in which elements of visual language influence people and the world of ideas.

Building knowledge across modules and grade levels leads to deep conceptual understanding. The storyline across grade levels K–5 of PhD Science® helps students build knowledge and develop complex thinking by applying crosscutting concepts to make sense of disciplinary core ideas.

Next month, we’ll chat about how the science of reading research is integrated into our curricula.

Best,

The Great Minds Team

P.S. If you haven’t done so already, please sign up for our monthly product newsletters. Each month, you’ll receive information about events, webinars, new blogs, and more about Eureka Math® and Eureka Math²®, Wit & Wisdom®, or PhD Science.
