Why irrationality rules the Humanity and AI?

Why irrationality rules the Humanity and AI?

Humans were eventually irrational creatures gifted with the power of rationality.

Rationality is about applying intelligence and knowledge for questing after truth and new discoveries, inventions and innovations, while solving the most fundamental rational problems.

We delve into the rationality-irrationality dilemma, following the highest rationales of AI Rationalism:

The Rational is the Real, as the Real is the Rational;

Rational is Intelligent, and vice versa, as Real is True, and vice versa;

Rationality is all and everything for real intelligent beings, including humans and machines;

Rationality is generated by the world, universe, existence, or nature, through its causal rules and scientific laws, rational relationships and regular interactions;

Nature is rational by its nature, while humans are irrational by the nature as well, being Homo irrational instead of Homo sapiens;

All reality is organized in the most rational way, being the root cause of the universe and nature, life and intelligence;

All the biological evolution of Homo Irrational is about developing rationality in the human brain;

Irrationality is generated by the human brain/mind, affecting the human condition, our personality and mentality, cognition and reasoning, beliefs, intentions and desires, behaviors and actions, as well as the human society, its policies, institutions, culture, religion, science and technology.

Creating human-compete irrational machines and unreasonable agents as humanoid AI robots will disrupt the human history.

Humans born irrational, live irrationally and die irrationally, while believing to be rational.

That humans are not rational creatures, full of “cognitive biases,” systematically making choices that defy clear logic, and being irrational is a good thing.

Let's use an analogy for a better explanation and clarification our argumentation, which I trust more than deduction, induction or abduction.

There is a human neuro-mental condition of agnosia: "the inability to process sensory information", or the inability to recognize or comprehend the meaning things, exactly like big tech large language models (LLMs) and their chatbots.

Even with intact senses and healthy memory, your brain/mind could fail to categorize entities and recognize objects, persons, sounds, shapes, smells, speech, as all attributed to the brain injury or neuro-cognitive disorders.

There are many types of agnosias, all of which happen when your brain/mind can’t recognize or process what your senses tell it, again as all today's AI models.

First of all, it is anosognosia, described as a “denial of deficit” or “lack of insight.” It is a condition where you can’t recognize other health conditions or problems due to the damage in the areas of the brain updating a "self-image" in real time. Person’s mind can’t update its self-image, failing to process or recognize that there is a big health problem looking for immediate solutions or treatments, if possible.

Thus, an agent with anosognosia can't recognize the problem at all, rejecting or avoiding accepting reality as it is.

We humans have a fundamental problem with the world, its realities, entities and interactions. We experience it all the time, but struggle to define it, let alone categorize, know or understand it.

We don’t know when the world began, how big it is, where it came from and where it is going, and we have no idea why it all exists, including our living world of nature.

As people with agnosias and anosognosia, we fail to recognize the problem at all, rejecting or avoiding reality in all its reality, uncertainty and complexity.

Here is some evidence form transdisciplinary R&D practice to apply ontological and scientific knowledge to create integrative world knowledge and disruptive general-purpose technologies.

In 2005, as part of the universal world ontology project, to understand everything that there is, in the most general terms, innovated the first version of the Catalogue of the World of Things: Universal Standard Entity Classification System (USECS), with no big interest from human minds.

In 2019, concentrating all congenital rationality, seemingly found a principial solution to the hardest problem for human intelligence to invent the non-human, technological, computing intelligence which is not bound in its rationality as the human mind.

The Real AI Technology Development Project relied on the rational power of transdisciplinarity, integrating Philosophy, Semantics, Logic, Mathematics, Statistics, Science, Engineering, Technology.

As a result, need to designed and developed what the rational minds have been dreamt of for ages and ages, a Real, True, Genuine, or Rational, Interactive AI, to be deployed and distributed in a 2-3 years.

Again, on a large scale, the Rational AI has no understanding from our irrational world, easily excited by the senseless AI bigtech stories and big media narratives, as the mentioned LLMs and GPT chatbots.

This all just proves the main thesis,

Humanity is deeply marked by Irrationality, strongly opposing Rationality as the quality of being guided by reasons or causes or insights or scientific laws as causal relationships fundamental to reality, or being intelligent/intellectual/reasonable/truthful/real/causal.

In its wholeness, the construct of rationality is ranging from the completely rational to the completely irrational, like as the reality-virtuality continuum embracing all possible variations and compositions of real and virtual objects.

Although Aristotle defined humans as rational animals, but empirical studies with human practice show that people are fundamentally irrational—that human judgment, reasoning, choice, and problem solving are overwhelmed by many fallacies, illusions, biases, and other shortcomings.

Take world religions as a close example. As for now, faith is on the rise and 84% of the global population identifies with a religious group.

Meantime, the number of the Secular/Nonreligious/Agnostic/Atheist is only 1.193 billion or 15.58%.

As said, rationality/irrationality informs all and everything related to humanity, from human life to the human mind, and its worldviews, cognition, thinking, desires and intentions, and particularly belief systems.

Again, our core beliefs drive our life and define us, our thoughts, feelings, behavior and actions. They affect how we see ourselves and other people, and the world as a whole and in detail.

Core beliefs as internal mental states and mental models shape our reality.

And belief is an assumption, faith, trust, or confidence that someone or something exists or true without any proof or evidence, fact, rationality, or reality.

Then we all have two sorts of beliefs,

Rational beliefs relying on reasons and evidence, laws and rules, logic and reality, as causal relationships fundamental to reality;

Irrational beliefs opposing reasons and evidence, objective laws and natural rules, logic and reality;

And there is arationality, which we include into irrationality, what is outside the domain of reason, like affections and emotions, unconscious affects and drives or mystical and instinctive or aconceptual knowledge.

Although Aristotle defined humans as rational animals, humans are fundamentally irrational, both in theory and practice, individually and collectively.

Human judgment, reasoning, choice, and problem solving are overwhelmed by fallacies, illusions, biases, and other shortcomings, being “cognitive misers” who use as little information, and as little cognitive effort, as possible in their lives; at worst, people are just plain stupid—incapable, without extensive instruction, of conforming themselves to the principles of logic and rationality.

Thus, human could be both rational animals or irrational animals, hybrid entities, the centaurs, half-animal and half-human creatures, and it all depends on us which natural feature to win.

As such, humans could believe in any invented fictions, superhuman beings, as God, gods, and deities, witches and ghosts, extraterrestrial life or even artificial human intelligence.

Such human irrational phenomena was rationalized as irrationalism, "a system of belief or action opposing to rationalism as a whole, disregarding or contradicting rational principles.

Irrationalism prioritizes sensation, experience, instinct, intuition, feeling, faith, and free will as over and against intelligence, reason and intellectual knowledge, where moral codes are myths, lies, and frauds created to mask forces operating beneath the surface to influence thought and behaviour.

Moreover, individual irrational beliefs could spread, diffuse and infect to become a common, collective belief, collective consciousness, collective conscience, or collective irrationality of the mass/group/hive/social mind,

Philosophical Irrationality: Irrationalism opposing the rational methods of science, as pragmatism, existentialism, vitalism. voluntarism, historicism, relativism, intuitionism and empiricism. "In general, irrationalism implies either (in ontology) that the world is devoid of rational structure, meaning, and purpose; or (in epistemology) that reason is inherently defective and incapable of knowing the universe without distortion; or (in ethics) that recourse to objective standards is futile; or (in anthropology) that in human nature itself the dominant dimensions are irrational".

Scientific Irrationality: The new Geocentrism as the Big Bang theory, Dark Energy and Dark Matter, the Cold/Hot/Controlled Fusion, as JET Tokamak; Creationists vs. Evolutionists. Human Reproductive Cloning, Synthetic Biology.

Social Irrationality: All social evils, hierarchies, inequalities, mass poverty, wealth, crimes, corruption, higher education as a commercial business, public health as a commercial business.

Political Irrationality: Empires, kingdoms, colonies, nations, autocracies, governments, representative democracy, anti-social politics and policies.

Economic Irrationality: Economic crises, boom and bust, cheap slave labor, exploitation, fiat money, paper wealth, speculative nature-aversive capitalism.

Military Irrationality: Warfare, wars, armed conflicts, mass violence and killings.

Cultural Irrationality: Mythologies, religions, low culture, elite culture, mass culture.

Environmental Irrationality: Climate change, global warming, ecological risks, air/water/soil pollution, deforestation, acidification, environmental hazards, nature destruction.

Technological Irrationality: Environmentally aversive technologies, machines and equipment, ecologically and socially harmful digital technologies, ICT, big data, blockchain, bitcoin, artificial human intelligence, machine learning, artificial neural networks, humanoid robotics.

As it is now happening with the irrational belief in artificial human intelligence, the study and design of rational or intelligent agents, abstract intelligent agents with their real-world implementations, autonomous intelligent agents constantly learning and knowing and interacting.

The main question, philosophical, scientific and technical, was raised by A. Turing, in his Mind's classical article, COMPUTING MACHINERY AND INTELLIGENCE, and in the textbook Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach: "Can a machine think or act rationally"?

Here we are at the critical crossroads, like a fork in the road, a deciding moment in our human life and future AI technology "when a choice between presented options is required, and, once made, the choice cannot be reversed".

The mainstream dominated by bigtech AI is choosing the irrational human-mimicking paradigm of irrational AI:

It refers to the ability of a computer or robot to mimic human intelligence, or the human body, brain, brains, behavior, business, as Artificial Human Intelligence.

Replicating, mimicking or simulating the human intelligence and behavior, it is emerging as more irrational and unreasonable than the humans due to the massive amount of the illegally scraped Internet/web data to "train to learn" Artificial Human Intelligence models to fake human activities.

To mimic, imitate, replicate or fake the human intellect and behavior is to IRRATIONALLY anthropomorphize artificial intelligence as artificial human intelligence, marketed as narrow/weak AI, machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), artificial neural networks (ANNs), Generative AI (GenAI), large language models (LLMs), generative pre-trained transformer (GPTx), artificial general intelligence (AGI), artificial superintelligence (ASI), etc.

Such an irrational, non-intelligent AI digital technology is plagued with unanticipated effects and unintended consequences.

Unreasonably, it has been almost legalized by the EU AI Act, the first-ever legal framework on the AI, by the anoetic MEPs a few months before their "dismissal", regardless of its innumerable risks and threats.

Again, It is clear for everybody a bit rational and intelligent that human-like irrational machines as human-competitive Artificial Human Intelligence will take over all the human jobs, and than the human world.

The greatest concern is that Artificial Human Intelligence could become unpredictably irrational due to inherently irrational and biased AI's codes and algorithms.

Interesting take, refreshing! In our work with conversational game theory, which can handle both rational and irrational actors (humans) and then training Ai to adopt a perspective to play, training the perspective to communicate “irrationally” was quite the challenge, and while the ai was able to maintain irrational communication to a degree, it would quickly become rational in exchange with another rational (ai) agent
