Why I’ve Been MIA on Social Media: A Friendly Update
You may have noticed I’ve been a quiet on social media this past month.
It’s not because I don’t love sharing my thoughts and tips with you all, but I needed a little time away.
Let me explain why, in my usual honest and upbeat style!
1. I Hit the Burnout Wall 🚧
First things first—burnout.
Yep, it happened to me.
Because I have written about it many times, I easily recognized the signs.
After years of pouring my heart into teaching, consulting, and creating resources for ESL teachers, I realized I was running on empty.
I wasn’t my usual cheerful self and felt like I needed a break.
So, I decided to hit pause, recharge my batteries, and do a bit of soul-searching.
A little big longer than I expected, but it’s all good news actually.
2. Getting Creative: Quilts and Zentangle Art 🎨
During my time off, I discovered the joy of doing things just for fun.
I sewed a jean quilt with pillows, using old blue jeans from my collection of many years, as a gift for my daughter’s milestone birthday.
Nothing is much more relaxing and the perfect way to unwind and get my creative juices flowing.
And then there was Zentangle Art—have you tried it?
It's this meditative doodling that’s super relaxing.
It really helped me find a bit of Zen – peace - and let my brain breathe.
Plus, I ended up with some pretty cool designs, if I do say so myself! 😉
3. Reconnecting with Friends and Family, and Making New Friends 👫💕
Another big reason I stepped back from social media is that I wanted to spend more quality time with friends and family.
It's easy for me to get caught up in work and forget how important these connections are.
I realized I needed to nurture those relationships and enjoy some good, old-fashioned one-to-one time.
From long chats over coffee to watching my family’s baseball games, I’ve been soaking up all the love and laughter I can.
And guess what?
I’ve also been making new friends along the way!

Whether it’s meeting new people at community events and during my long walks in my neighbourhood parks, or striking up conversations at the English Language Corners, I've been reminded of how much joy and inspiration can come from connecting with others.
It’s been wonderful to share stories, laugh together, and build new friendships that I know will last. 🌟
Taking this time to focus on my relationships has filled my heart with gratitude and reminded me that life is all about the people we share it with. 💞
4. Becoming a Philanthropist 🌟
When I used to hear the word "philanthropist," I thought it only meant someone who gives away lots of money. 💰
But guess what?
It's not just about money!
A philanthropist is anyone who gives their time, talents, or resources to make a positive change in the world.
It's about making a difference, no matter how big or small. 🌍❤️
I've been embracing this idea by donating my used clothes and household items to a charity, the Salvation Army Second-Hand shop, that supports newcomers and others in need.
It's been a fulfilling way to give back during these times.
But my journey doesn't stop there!
I've also been volunteering my time and sharing my experience in teaching English at two weekly face-to-face English Language Corners at my local library. 📚✨
As a group facilitator, I get to help newcomers to Toronto improve their everyday English skills so they can truly LIVE THEIR BEST LIFE.
And let me tell you, there's nothing more rewarding than that! 😊
5. Planning My Next Big Adventure 🌍
Most importantly, I needed some time to think about what’s next for me.
Even though I have been into my 4th decade in education, my passion for helping newcomers learn English to adjust to life in a new country is stronger than ever!
Volunteering at the English Language Corners in my neighbourhood libraries and offering online English Language Corner each Monday evening in August for English conversation have been highlight moments of my career.
It’s given me a sense of purpose and pride.
Now, I’m excited to pivot my efforts toward this online program to a larger community to help any newcomers and wannabes LIVE THEIR BEST LIFE in any English-speaking country.
So, if you haven’t seen much of me online, now you know why.
I’m excited to get back out there, share more great content and tips with you all, and keep doing what I love: helping others succeed.
Thanks for sticking around! 🌟
