Why Just Wish When You Can Get Your Resume Past The ATS?

What are you doing to get more interviews?


If you're trying to solve this problem by sending more resumes, you're just wishing.


Trying to get more interviews through volume is doing more of the same thing that's keeping your resume stuck in ATSs, and hoping for different results.


This strategy fails during 2024's competitive job markets because it's based on an assumption of candidate shortages that just doesn't exist today (when 80M+ currently employed workers search for the same 8M jobs) - it's the exact opposite, a shortage of jobs.


Good thing there are changes you can make to your resume/job search strategies to beat ATSs.


Here are a few ways to start beating the ATS to get more interviews:


  • Heavy Resume Customization: Most candidates spend too little time customizing their resume (average 15 minutes/resume), so they're not giving themselves a chance to match enough criteria. ATSs are programmed to screen out resumes like yours, with little customization, or tweaking.
  • Send Fewer Resumes: You're not going to solve this with volume, especially when there are 7 times more job seekers than jobs. Instead, invest more time on each resume, and focus on the positions where you provide a strategic advantage over other candidates. Stop applying to all the jobs you feel you could do, and concentrate on positions you can do better than anyone else.
  • Improve Information Sources: You get zero advantage over your competitors through publicly available information. Plus, much of it is obsolete and generic (including the job description, which won't include the individual hiring manager's current needs). One reason you're getting blocked by the ATS is you're using the same obsolete information as your competitors, making it impossible for you to stand out ... unless you do more than your competitors.


You would have already been doing this if you knew how, and your job search would be progressing far more quickly than it is now.
