Why Is Offboarding Just as Important as Onboarding?

We all know how important onboarding is for a successful employee journey. It helps a new hire get established and learn company policies and practices while allowing a company to emphasize its mission and values. A great onboarding process is a critical part of a strong company culture.

But what about offboarding? I don’t hear companies talking enough about employee departures and how that process actually works. There are very good reasons why offboarding should be a priority when revamping workplace culture since it:

  • Lets you know the advantages and disadvantages of a role
  • Establishes a better, more positive relationship with employees, even after they’re gone
  • Allows an opportunity for honest feedback about a company
  • Improves a brand’s reputation and culture

Valuing your employees – and showing them that you value them – shouldn’t end when they’re leaving. Offboarding should be just as important as onboarding in their journey with your organization.

At StaffLink, my team helps companies succeed by improving their HR functions, including payroll, risk management, benefits admin, onboarding and offboarding and much more. Learn how we can help you create better experiences for your workforce. Get in touch today.

In our organization, the majority are remote workers. As the IT Program Manager, I need to make sure IT equipment is returned so that we can get it ready for reissue to new hires.
