Why Over-Achieving CEOs Rely on Lead KPIs for Maximum Productivity

By Andrew Lenti, Managing Director at Topp Tactical Intelligence, London

As a CEO, your day is filled with endless responsibilities, from overseeing the overall strategy to ensuring your company’s operations run smoothly. But here’s the thing: if you’re not focused on the right metrics, the day-to-day hustle can easily steer you away from achieving long-term success. That’s where Lead KPIs come into play.

What Are Lead KPIs and Why Should CEOs Care?

Lead KPIs are the activities and metrics that drive future success. Unlike lag KPIs, which measure past performance, lead KPIs allow you to predict and influence outcomes before they happen. These are the proactive actions you take every day to ensure you’re on track to meet your goals, enabling you to course-correct as needed.

For an over-achieving CEO like yourself, Lead KPIs are your secret weapon. They provide the clarity and focus needed to consistently execute on strategic initiatives, boost productivity, and align your team to achieve results.

Let me share some of the Lead KPIs I use to manage my own company. These simple yet powerful activities help me stay on top of my goals and ensure I’m focused on the right tasks every day.

Daily Lead KPIs:

  1. Prospecting: Every day, I review qualified leads and reach out to warm prospects (those who’ve shown interest, like clicking on an email or engaging with content). This ensures my pipeline stays filled with potential clients.
  2. Outreach: I consistently launch and analyze outreach email sequences, making sure I’m targeting the right people at the right time with the right message.
  3. Social Media Posting: I post my High-Value Content Offer (HVCO) daily, aiming to do it at the same time each day to maintain consistency and engagement.
  4. Next-Day Activity Product Development Plan: I plan tomorrow’s activities for my development team. This helps us stay organized and ensures we’re focused on high-priority tasks.
  5. Sport Activities & Meditation: As a CEO pulled in many directions, your health is something you should be working on daily. Reminding myself this does not hurt.

Weekly KPIs:

  1. Client Reviews: Every week, I spend 30 minutes reviewing and realigning our PDCA dashboard assigned to each enterprise client relationship ensuring that any expectations our clients have of us are proactively addressed.
  2. OKR Reviews: Tracking our Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) weekly helps us stay aligned with our long-term goals and evaluate progress toward achieving them and ensuring that nobody falls asleep at the wheel.
  3. Agile Software Project Reviews: Weekly reviews of our agile software development projects ensure our developers are never idle waiting for our Design Team to decide what their next task / product feature is.
  4. Strategic Programmes Review: I aim to spend at least 30-minutes a week conducting a review of all ongoing strategic initiatives to ensure our task list and project dashboard is aligned to what our team is doing.

Monthly KPIs:

  1. Product Updates & Feature Announcements: Regular updates to our software users ensure we’re providing continuous value and improving the product.
  2. Webinars & Publications: Hosting webinars and publishing articles help keep our audience engaged, share valuable insights, and grow our brand presence.
  3. Outreach Effectiveness Reviews: A monthly review of our e-mail outreach sequences helps identify where we need to optimize and split-test for better results.
