Why shrimp's becoming a scale game

Why shrimp's becoming a scale game

It’s hard to argue with Gorjan Nikolik’s recent observation that “shrimp is becoming a scale game”. At times when margins are so tight, the biggest companies tend to be the most resilient, and margins have rarely been tighter for such an extended period since the dawn of commercial shrimp farming. Given that it produces nearly 2,000 tonnes a year, Rivermar is by no means a smallholder, but even they are struggling. Here’s hoping that 2025 brings an upturn in fortunes for all the families whose livelihoods are reliant on shrimp. — Rob Fletch, Senior Editor
