Why we should take the climate crisis seriously

Climate change is no myth. There is real and tangible evidence that indeed the world's climate is changing. Extreme weather events point to a deterioration in the climate. According to the IPCC it is unequivocal that human activities are impacting the climate. From melting glaciers, extended droughts, flooding, loss of biodiversity and a host of other impacts of climate change the indicators are evident. While there is growing action to stem and reduce climate change, there is still much more that needs to be done to make a real dent in the climate crisis. As 2030 approaches and the sustainable development goals reinforce the need to take action, many regions have shown that not enough is being done to take action against climate change.

The climate crisis needs all hands on deck. National targets to cut carbon emissions need to be combined with industry commitments to reduce their carbon footprint. Individual commitments also play a part leading to community action. The climate crisis is arguably one of the key challenges facing humanity and must be taken seriously.
