Why Your Business Breakdowns Are Actually the Best Thing Ever
Ever feel like your business is crumbling faster than a cookie in milk?
Good news: You’re not failing—you’re evolving.
The breakdown you’re in right now? It’s the gateway to your next breakthrough.
Let’s talk about what no one else is saying about this messy, magical stage of personal development.
We all want the glow-up moments in business, right? The six-figure launches, the fully booked calendar, the "Look, Ma, I made it!" kind of success. But what nobody talks about is the messy middle—the part where everything feels like it’s falling apart.
Here’s the truth: Every big breakthrough starts with a breakdown. It’s painful, uncomfortable, and downright annoying. But when you learn to embrace it, you’ll see that it’s clearing the way for something bigger.
So, if you’re in a breakdown right now, let me walk you through six steps to clear it with (some) grace—and maybe even a little humour.
Step 1: Admit You’re in a Breakdown
Here’s the deal: You can’t fix what you won’t acknowledge. Business isn’t the only thing on fire—when you’re in breakdown mode, it’s usually leaking into your relationships, health, or even how many snacks you’re stress-eating at 10 p.m. (No judgment.)
What to do: Look for broken agreements. Did you promise yourself a healthier work-life balance but now you’re glued to your laptop? Did you say “yes” to a project you secretly wanted to scream “no” at? Write it all down. Awareness is half the battle. The key is to look everywhere in your life.
Step 2: Ask Yourself, “What Did I Make More Important?”
This one hits hard, but hear me out. Breakdowns usually happen because you put something on a pedestal—like being perfect, people-pleasing, or hustling 24/7. But what’s underneath that? Fear? Validation? A craving for approval? Staying safe? Control?
What to do: Get real with yourself. Ask: What’s driving this behaviour? Sometimes the thing causing the breakdown isn’t what you think it is. "There is a thing under the thing" and look deeper than the surface. This is where coaching helps uncover those blindspots.
Step 3: Face the Price You’re Paying
Let’s be honest: staying in breakdown mode isn’t free. You’re paying a price, and so are the people around you—your clients, your loved ones, even your cat who wonders why you’re crying at your desk again.
What to do: Write down the costs. Are you burning out? Missing time with your kids? Losing trust with your audience? Seeing this in black and white might sting, but it’s also the wake-up call you need.
Step 4: Feel ALL the Feelings
This part sucks, but it’s non-negotiable. No amount of Netflix, wine, or ice cream can bury the emotions that come with a breakdown. Trust me, I’ve tried.
What to do: Instead of stuffing or running, sit with it. Cry, scream, journal—whatever you need to process. It’s not about wallowing; it’s about moving through the feelings so you can release them.
Step 5: Recommit to Your Vision, Mission, and Values
Once you’ve faced the storm, it’s time to remember why you’re here. What’s your bigger purpose? Who are you here to serve?
What to do: Reconnect with your core values. Write down your mission statement. Visualize the impact you want to make. This is your anchor when the waves of doubt hit again (and they will).
Step 6: Create a New Moment
Guess what? You don’t have to wait for everything to be “fixed” to move forward. Every moment is a chance to start fresh.
What to do: Decide who you’re going to BE today. Not the overwhelmed, breakdown-ridden version of you—but the version who shows up boldly, even when it’s messy.
The Real Truth About Breakdowns is they aren’t here to ruin you; they’re here to refine you. They’re the messy middle of transformation—the part where your old ways fall apart so something better can emerge.
So, if you’re in a breakdown right now, don’t fight it. Lean into it. Be curious. Trust that the breakthrough is coming. If you're in breakdown congratulations, that means you're likely playing a bold game!
If you aren't getting results in business and feel like you're spinning your wheels, you are in a breakdown. Coaching helps you discover your blindspots and work through the process.
