Wind Generation in Ireland April 2024
Wind generation in Ireland in April 2024 was just 0.4% below the previous highest ever for an April month which was in 2023.

In April 2024, wind supplied on average 33.6% of electricity demand compared with 34.9% in April 2023. On average between 2018 and 2023 wind supplied 26% of demand in the month of April.

Year-to-date in 2024 at the end of April, wind has, on average, supplied 39% of electricity demand in Ireland.
917 GWh of electricity was generated from wind in April 2024 in Ireland. This was 0.4% lower than April 2023 in terms of GWh generated and 30% lower than March in 2024.

On a weekly basis in April, wind met 38% the during the first week, 50% in week 2, 32% in week 3, 16% in week 4 and 27% in the final two days of the month.
On a daily basis, there were 2 days in April when wind supplied more than 70% of demand with the highest being 73% on the 5th. There were three other days when it was 60% or over.

There were10 days April when wind supplied less than 20%, the lowest was 2.5% on the 21th.
Note that these figures are based on the SCADA data published on EirGrid’s website. These haven’t yet been quality controlled and, in general, the actual share of demand met by wind is 1% to 2% points lower when all the quality controlled metered data is available.
