Wind Generation in Ireland October2024
Wind generation in Ireland in October 2024 was the third highest for an October month, behind 2023 and 2020 terms of GWh generated. Share of demand in October was fifth highest for an October.

1,004 GWh of electricity was generated from wind in October 2024 in Ireland. This was 23% higher than October 2023 in terms of GWh generated and 29% higher than September 2024.
In October 2024, wind supplied on average 34.9% of electricity demand compared with 29.6% in September 2023. On average between 2018 and 2023 wind supplied 37% of demand in the month of October.

Year-to-date in 2024 at the end of October, wind has, on average, supplied 32.4% of electricity demand in Ireland and 1.9% more so far compared with last year.

On a weekly basis in October, wind met 42% of demand for the first week (six days), 26% in week 2, 41% in week 3, 44% in week 4 and 12% during the last four days of the month.

On a daily basis, there was one day in October when wind supplied 76% of demand (5th) and three other days when it supplied over 60%. There were six other days when it supplied over 50%.
There were three days in October when wind supplied less than 10%, the lowest on the 29th when it supplied 3%.
Note that these figures are based on the SCADA data published on EirGrid’s website. These haven’t yet been quality controlled and, in general, the actual share of demand met by wind is 1% to 2% points lower when all the quality controlled metered data is available.
