Microsoft has announced that it will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. No security updates or any assistance will be provided for the operating system.
Windows 10 has been a successful operating system, fixing the issues that were in Windows 8 and playing a big role in facilitating remote work during the pandemic. It was considered as “The last version of Windows” until the introduction of Windows 11.
Introducing Windows 11 which has a similar design to macOS, if you’re a mac person you’ll likely enjoy the experience of the new interface. Windows 11 is built for efficiency but it’s important to ensure hardware compatibility and preparation before upgrading. For people who purchased devices with Windows 10 pre-installed, the migration to Windows 11 should be smooth, as most Windows 10 hardware meets the requirements for Windows 11. The key hardware requirement is TPM 2.0 and as long as the basic compatibility checks are completed, there’s a 95% guarantee that people will have no issues during the upgrade. The upgrade is highly recommended and the process is straightforward.
If your computer doesn’t support TPM 2.0, you should look at purchasing a new device especially one that is pre-equipped with TPM 2.0 and other required hardware is highly recommended for better security and performance.
PC Health Check is a free tool from Microsoft that gives users the opportunity to check if their system is compatible with the requirements for upgrading to Windows 11. It is not pre-installed on Windows 10 and must be downloaded separately from Microsoft’s website.
