Winning isn’t everything

Winning isn’t everything

I remember the first football medal I won when I was 11. I even remember who scored the winning goal. I wonder what he is doing now. As great as winning that medal was, it wasn’t the reason I played. I just loved the game, still do.

I can relate that early experience to my working life now. Especially to the last few years of working in the Manor Royal Business Improvement District.

It was fantastic to find out that our Gateway 3 Entranceway Improvement Project had been short-listed for a national award by British BIDs. This year will also see Manor Royal entered for two other awards – the great thing about that is we’ve been entered by someone else.

Amazing. Great. Love it. Hope we win, and, yes, I will be disappointed if we don’t.

Even though we are very proud to have already won three awards, been short-listed for two others and received one commendation over past four years, the awards are not the point. The Manor Royal BID Directors never set out to win awards. They came as a bi-product of the work we have done.

That, of course, is the most important thing. Getting things done.

We are extremely grateful to British BIDs for short-listing our project. It is welcome recognition not just of getting the job done but doing it well.

Thanks to all those that have contributed to our shared success in the Manor Royal Business District. I sincerely hope this is reflected by a positive outcome in the renewal ballot next February 2018.

If you’ve read this and feel like voting for our project, please do. I still want to win to help keep alive the youthful spirit of that 11 year old.

Here’s the link to how to vote for Manor Royal and see the other fantastic projects delivered by other Business Improvement Districts around the country.

Many thanks, Nicola Blake and all those that have voted so far. For those that haven't, still not too late...unless you want to vote for a different project in which case it is waaaaayyyy too late!
