The metaverse is a massive trend at the moment, with news and promises about the power of the metaverse splashed across social media and all the biggest media headlines. The metaverse is the next evolution of the internet, where you can use technology like augmented and virtual reality to immerse yourself in a vibrant digital world.
Curious about how entertainment like music, theme parks, video games, and movies are incorporating immersive technology and living up to the promise of the metaverse?
Here are some of the biggest examples of how the metaverse is already shaking up the entertainment world.
Attending Virtual Concerts
Thanks to metaverse technology, you can catch a VR concert by your favorite artist and watch the action right from your couch.
We can now use augmented and virtual reality to create effects like holograms that add incredible immersive experiences to concerts.
The ABBA Voyage experience in London is a great example of how immersive technology enhances the entire concert experience. The creators of ABBA Voyage recorded the group members performing their songs – the singers are in their seventies now – and used artificial intelligence to make them look younger onstage. Now they are using the AI-generated version of ABBA group members to create holograms that can perform on stage during the ABBA Voyage experience.
In the meantime, online game platforms like Fortnite and Roblox are already hosting their own virtual concerts, featuring artists like Twenty One Pilots, Ariana Grande, and Travis Scott. These virtual experiences have already attracted millions of viewers, and we are likely to see a lot more of these metaverse performances.
Riding the VR and AR Wave at Theme Parks
Walt Disney has announced their intention to build a theme park in the metaverse in the next few years, and we already have amusement park rides that are enhanced by AR and VR.

Universal Studios Hollywood will also import a Mario Kart-themed ride from Japan that uses augmented reality to create the illusion that the user is interacting with virtual characters and objects. Visor-like glasses will enable theme park guests to engage with digital creations on the ride in real-time.
A More Immersive Movie Experience
We all love movies, right? Now they’re getting even better.
Innovative directors and producers are already using AR and VR to make the movie-watching experience more immersive.
Directors can film 360-degree footage to help viewers feel like they are really part of the action. This is a great way to help transport people into virtual locations all over the world and let them experience what it’s like to be there in person.
A lot of the technology that has been developed in video games is now being used in movie making, as well. In the future, directors will be able to make movies where the content is generated on the fly using AI, and you’ll be able to interact with characters and settings based on your own choices. Everyone will have a completely unique experience because the personalized movie content will be generated specifically for you.
Many movies are also shooting behind-the-scenes footage that is available to watch in VR, so you can explore the set and see what happened as the movie was being made.

2yDear Bernard Marr -Great article as #metaverse is a hyped up word and a much talked aspect today. But heyya “Tommorow is here Today” how Metaverse can help enhance connect to the people over immersive experiences buying retail products virtually to reality and buying > original $$ value has been applied in #gucci by e-gamers in #Metaverse. Well this can also help enhance customer experience by sitting on couch and purchasing houses 🏡 and bankers helping navigate from virtual to reality and doing estimations and walk-thrus. Via AR/VR estimating immense immersion experiences by learning about the accounts. Well all these are one aspects but how useful it is for sustainability aspects not travelling using cars , or navigation systems sharking into datamaps via connecting to reality. Or Energy Industry estimation of smart readers to rates councils via immersion. Everyone everyday problems navigating to virtualisation. Embracing Tommorow as today can help us into navigating next with ease ,passion and creativity by real-time data, cloud, stringent cyber strategies and lowering carbon emissions on whole. In saying that increased carbon footprints 👣 due to increased devices to be a noted notion. Thanks, Tanya

2yI think they need to find something more to justify the hype. They risk to be metaboring like SecondLife on the same field or ClubHouse for voice and social, ot 3D TV for just immersive, or Minority Report as interfaces from Oblong MIT spinoff. All missing the point in different way, joining weaknesses can be not the solution
