Are you forgetting about your "real" self?
I hear it too often. "I don't know what I want", "I have never taken myself into account", "can I be a priority?", "I don't know how to listen to myself", "oh, no... I prefer not to think about what I really care, it would be too dangerous"... and so on.
Why do I hear too often these questions? Probably some of you have some answers.
I guess that we have not been trained to put ourselves in the middle of our life equation. We have been trained to take into account others, to fulfill our parents' expectations, our teachers' expectations, our friends' expectations, the academic expectations, the job expectations, our boss' expectations, our colleague's expectations, our couple's expectations, our children's expectations... we have been trained to fulfill "other's" expectations.
In our lives, we have been too often trained to fulfill other people's expectations. We have not been trained to put ourselves in the middle of our life equation.
How many times do you think about yourself during the day? How many times do you question whether you are enjoying what you are doing? How many times do you wonder what would be good for you? - Only for you, I mean, without taking anyone else into consideration.
I guess not many. That is why, when I ask this question, I get a funny look. It is a question too difficult to answer. Too complicated. The easy thing is to continue, look down and work, smile, and go on.
What about looking up again? Stop, breath and feel.
What about putting yourself in the centre of your decisions? What would your present look like?
