ARE You Ready for "The New Normal" after COVID-19?

As we all know COVID - 19 has completely changed our lifestyle and things around us during recent times.

There are so many changes happening like wearing masks, social distancing, traveling has been paused and what not.

So today I will be touching up a few things which will be “ The New Normal” for all of us and we have to adopt these things in our routine

Earlier we all used to sit together, work together and eat together but now we all are working from our home, connected through the internet, doing workouts together via zoom or hangouts sessions.

So basically this is what we refer to as new normal. There are so many other things which I will be covering today in this post.

The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed the world as we all are aware of. People are living differently, buying differently, and in many ways, thinking differently too.

  • Consumers behavior and purchasing habits are changing and many of these habits will also continue the post-pandemic era as well
  • Moving forward, we will also see an increase in the virtual workforce as more people work from home and enjoy doing so.
  • Right now the customer purchases are currently centered on the most basic and essential needs, people are shopping more consciously, buying locally, and even there few campaigns are also going on by the Indian govt which largely emphasizes on go local.

For eg:

  1. Be Indian Buy Indian
  2. Vocal For Local

These campaigns are also part of India’s Global Trade Strategy

All around the globe, the COVID-19 pandemic has taken away lives and jobs, damaged industries and enterprises, and turned the unimaginable into the usual.

A return to normal, whenever it comes, will be a different normal. What we do right now will define the future from here on.

Lower Consumption of clothes - The last 2 months have taught me that I can live life in 5 pairs of t-shirts and 3 pairs of shorts. That's all what I need to sustain and my shopping spend in zero

Education: across all levels have been imparted online and homeschooling will be the new norm. Knowledge gets transferred via Zoom videos or video calls

Work From Home: Service industries that don’t require physical touch with goods or people, will start moving to a WFH model. On the other hand, it saves office rent and other associated costs for the employer. And for the employee, it reduces commute time and associated hassles

Health Check beside Security Check: Security check is mandatory while boarding a flight or while going to a hotel or a mall. We will now see one additional layer of checks whenever we visit malls and hotels. And travel may require a certificate of vaccination or a medical certificate would be compulsory if you are crossing international boundaries

Sports on TV: Getting into a stadium to watch a live sport (or any such event), is still a long way off. But we will see players getting onto the field to play a competitive sport and the same is broadcast on TV and digital channels such as Hotstar and other OTT platforms etc.

Now this unprecedented time will also be a testing time for all the businesses ( who majorly rely on human contact for eg: Cab Aggregators, Food Delivery Business ) and they are also gradually adopting a new normal

  • Doorstep deliveries & Contactless Delivery
  • Hand Sanitising & Wearing Masks will be a new normal for them as well
  • Live camera in the Restaurants kitchens - which will offer their guests access to what is happening in the kitchens via a mobile link and they can monitor that live

What is social distancing?

Social distancing also called “physical distancing,” To practice social or physical distancing:

  • Stay at least 6 feet ( this will be about 2 arms length) from other people
  • Stay out of crowded places and avoid mass gatherings

Already during the pandemic, companies have been creative in identifying "low-hanging fruit" that could be quickly implemented in their operations and services. Grocery stores install plexiglass shields at their checkouts, restaurants and groceries have expanded to takeout and home deliveries only, and face-to-face meetings have been replaced by video conferences across various sectors.

There are few examples of such innovative examples,

  • In China, robots have been designed to deliver medicines, meals, and to collect bed sheets and rubbish in hospitals.
  • The e-commerce giant JD developed a drone program to drop parcels and to spray disinfectant.
  • Smart helmets can identify anyone with fever within a five-meter radius.

As we know due to COVID 19 we can not go out for parties, dinner, etc so our home is now our new restaurant, pub, classroom. So whenever you want to party or have some good dinner utilize the space and things that are there in your home. There is no better and safe place other than your own home.

If you are getting bored at home try new recipes, connect to your school/college friends, join some online courses. I think we all have some hobbies besides our work so friends it's the right time we can pursue them.

Just one piece of advice: everything is possible; it's just a matter of accepting those changes and moving on.

Stay safe! Stay healthy!
