Are you "worth every penny" to your clients?
I know I know - most of you already think that your the "bees knees".
Ok, so maybe the reality is that we're all living with a kind of Imposter Syndrome...
But, how often do you review the testimonials, texts or shout out posts from clients, and those within your community?
I realised recently that I don't do it enough...
I guess we assume that by reading nice things about ourselves, we'll become an attention hungry attachment monster, who cannot go a single day without a compliment.
Unfortunately for most of us, that's already true!
We're only human after all, and it's a tough old business when you're working for yourself.
So what can you do to relieve some of the pressure and stress of riding solo?
I wrote a post yesterday about The Creative Collective Networking group social event up (or indeed, perhaps down) in Kent. In the room, we all a whole host of creative professionals who had come together to meet IRL, share a drink and enjoy some light entertainment.
Of course for some people in that room, myself included, networking has become more than just a necessity for business. It has become a lifeline, a source of sanity, camaraderie and friendship. Those things are worth driving a RIDICULOUS mileage to support. This particular group of odds and sods is particularly warm and good humoured, so if you're working in a creative industry, it's well worth checking them out!
So - my point is this. Surround yourself with good people. People who check in when they've noticed that you're a bit quiet, or perhaps just check in because they want to. These are the kind of relationships that have saved my business...and kept me going.
How can you make yourself valuable?
I had a fantastic conversation recently with the lovely Paul James CMgr who is currently seeking his next opportunity, and we had this exact conversation. I'll share with you exactly what I said to him in our 2 hour chat.
Only share something when there is a clear and tangible value for your audience.
So much content online is being generated just for the sake of having something to say. Taking time out of your day to read something that doesn't benefit you, your immediate circle of Taylor-esque besties or your business - is just simply a drain.
If you want to avoid your audience from feeling down, burdened or agitated, make sure each of your posts has a clear piece of actionable or meditative value.
Are you simply stuck for ideas?
At the end of the summer, I decided to launch my Fresh Eyes Power Hour. It's an hour spent talking about your content, your marketing strategy, reviewing unfinished content or even just figuring out how to get more out of LinkedIn.
Since launching, I have shared space with a handful of business owners who have all found the experience to be really helpful. I'm absolutely delighted to have given them a bit of a boost, and I'm really looking forward to doing more of it in 2024.
