Youth Ignite Student Founders Fellowship Awards 20 outstanding student-led businesses in Tanzania.

On December 8, 2024, Dar es Salaam witnessed the culmination of an inspiring entrepreneurial journey as the Youth Ignite Student Founders Fellowship celebrated 20 outstanding student-led businesses. These young innovators, selected from over 1,000 applicants and representing 10 Higher Learning Institutions (HLIs), received over 80 million Tanzanian shillings in funding.

After an exciting journey—from ideations at their institutions to a transformative 5-day Bootcamp—the final week brought these student founders together for an intensive mentorship experience. Guided by industry experts, the 30 shortlisted participants sharpened their skills, preparing to pitch their groundbreaking ideas to potential investors, partners, and customers.

“Through this program, I attained skills and prompts for business growth. I’m confident our businesses will make big steps in the next five months.”

About the Program

The Youth Ignite Student Founders Fellowship, implemented by the FUNGUO Innovation Programme in partnership with StartHub Africa and Westerwelle Startup Haus Arusha , goes beyond funding. It empowers students with essential entrepreneurial skills, fostering a vibrant innovation ecosystem.

By equipping university students with tools, connections, and knowledge, the Fellowship transforms entrepreneurship into a viable career path, enabling participants to create jobs for themselves and others.

This initiative also strengthens university innovation hubs by training hub managers and fostering sustainable ecosystems that support youth-led innovation across Tanzania.

The Youth Ignite Student Founders Fellowship is a testament to the power of youth-driven innovation. Together, we are building a future where young entrepreneurs shape sustainable development.
