  • California mandate for EV’s is in trouble. The Supreme Court will determine whether California can implement distinct Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations for carbon dioxide (CO2) compared to the rest of the nation. Currently, the EPA has the authority to grant California a waiver to enforce its own regulations in cases of “compelling and extraordinary circumstances.” This waiver was primarily intended to address unique California problems like smog in LA. The arguement is that CO2 emissions are neither "compelling nor extraordinary" for California as they affect everyone globally. If the Supreme Court rules against California, the 2035 mandate that requires the sale of only electric vehicles (EVs) in the state will be invalid. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) won’t enforce regulations mandating all $1+ billion companies report their greenhouse gas emissions or climate-related risks until 2026.

  • McKinsey outshines Gartner; Gains shakes up the market. McKinsey had to pay for a floor session at the Gartner Planning Conference. Gartner should have paid them to be there. It was the best session I attended. While some of the stuff they discussed was “obvious,” they had the data to back it up. And, so many companies miss the "obvious.” Installing a planning system well— and doing it fast — generates 5 times the return. While a plug for their help, it showed the opportunity for five times the savings. Amber Salley from Gains Systems presented a valuable new approach to Advanced Planning Systems: modular (plug and play using API) pieces that fit together. This elimination of the need to purchase monolithic code will drive much value.

  • Government can force suppliers to make union concessions— really The Government Accountability Office (GAO) ruled that government contractors may be required to enter into a labor harmony agreement (LHA) to qualify for awards. An LHA is a preemptive agreement where the employer makes concessions, like allowing employee recruitment, in exchange for the union waiving its right to strike.

  • Leaders can identify the best strategy for new products or ideas by thinking small and asking interesting questions, writes best-selling author Seth Godin. We have done this already. We started with an interesting question that said how do we take away all the pain caused by planning volatility and then there was LevelLoad.
