  • 📢 New event | Climate and Energy Summit, 18-19 March 2025 The world is increasingly presented with competing challenges to unified action on climate change and the energy transition. The weakening of climate finance commitments at COP29 demands bold action on the road ahead to address the worsening impacts of climate change that are redrawing north-south relations and alliances. Accelerating decarbonization is essential to mitigate cascading risks even as the incoming Trump administration threatens international climate cooperation around the Paris Agreement. At the same time, electric vehicles, solar, wind and critical raw materials are all climbing the geopolitical agenda and reshaping global competition, collaboration and trade relationships. In the lead-up to COP30 in Brazil, managing the interplay of climate and systemic risks alongside increasing geopolitical competition and uncertainty is crucial. We are delighted to share our first confirmed speakers, including: ▪️ Todd Stern, Non-resident Senior Fellow, The Brookings Institution; United States Special Envoy to Climate Change (2009-16) ▪️ Fatou Jeng, Climate Advisor to United Nations Secretary-General and Founder of CLEAN EARTH GAMBIA ▪️ Harry Boyd-Carpenter, Managing Director, Climate Strategy and Delivery, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development ▪️ Champa Patel, Executive Director Governments and Policy, Climate Group ▪️ Mike Hemsley, Deputy Director, Energy Transitions Commission Don't miss your opportunity to join a global gathering of senior leaders and decision-makers from the business community, multilateral organizations, government agencies, academia and NGOs to explore strategies for securing a resilient future. Voormalig Minister van Defensie

Many different perspectives at the Berlin Chatham House conference on strategic choices for Europe, none of them reassuring. We are facing huge uncertainties and grave security risks. And even when we know what has to be done, how do build the united, political strength to do it? Stand up to Putin, strengthen the support Ukraine, increase defence spending in Europa, bolster the European defense industry, invest in the Ukrainian defence industry, build resilience in our societies, act in consequence to acts of sabotage in our countries, work with the US on a mutual beneficial transatlantic partnership, strengthen the competitiveness of the EU, double down on cutting edge technologies. All of this, and more, as soon as possible. One only has to listen to the incredibly brave Ukrainians, present at the conference in Berlin, to know that this is not the time for complacency. It’s the time to be persistent. Nothing should distract us in Europe from that one goal. Security. Securing a free and independent Ukraine is our core interest. An unjust peace that could be imposed on Ukraine is nothing but appeasement that we will bitterly regret. So it’s time to act, in coalitions of the willing, in European Union and NATO. To deliver on our promises: for as long as it takes, as much as it takes. Future generations will thank us (or curse us if we don’t). #CHEurope Chatham House
