#DidYouKnow that an elephant eats between 150 to 300 kg of food daily! But their digestion is so inefficient that they process less than half of what they consume. This results in frequent defecation and lots of dung. Why does this matter? Elephant dung plays a key role in population surveys! Early in its establishment, the CITES MIKE Programme funded surveys and developed standards for Dung Count surveys. Call for Proposals: African Elephant Fund 🐘 We are pleased to announce that the African Elephant Fund (AEF) has launched a new call for proposals! Established in 2010 at the 14th Conference of the Parties (CoP14) to CITES, the AEF supports projects aimed at supporting the implementation of the African Elephant Action Plan (AEAP 2023). The journey of CITES-MIKE Programme data doesn't end with collection and analysis.
