It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of James C. "JC" Cokley's passing. James was a valued member of the tile industry. He founded JC Cokley Tile & Terrazzo in 1956 and Genesee Ceramic Tile in 1973. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “James and Desoline Cokley Family Fund” through the Community Foundation of Greater Flint or St. John Catholic Church. During this time of loss, our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with James' family, loved ones, and those closest to them.

Substrate requirements for tile continues to be a topic of much interest… in fact, Chicago Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) is hosting a technical roundtable this week on this very topic. Flatness is one quality of many that a substrate must measure up to before it can be tiled. What does a flat substrate offer that its non-flat counterparts don’t? Better chances of a successful and nice-looking tile installation. A flat substrate will be more accepting of the adhesive mortar and will provide a tenacious bond with the ceramic tile. And a flat substrate will also lead to an installation with minimal lippage.
