Staying home unsupervised is an important step toward independence for kids, but how do you know if your child is ready? There are a number of factors to consider, from the child's maturity level to how long you'll be gone and their ability to call for help if needed. “I like to think about readiness to stay home alone kind of like a developmental milestone,” Erik Shessler, MD, associate medical director of general pediatrics at Dartmouth Health Children's, told Parents. “By that, I mean it’s more an assessment of whether your child has the skills necessary to be able to stay home alone safely.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eZWPiTDX Dartmouth Health Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics

Public health and law enforcement in the Granite State are sounding the alarm about a disturbing trend with young drivers. There have been 100 deaths on New Hampshire roads so far this year, and 10 of those victims were drivers under the age of 21. That number represents a 400% jump from this time last year. Lexi Bly of Dartmouth Health Children's Teen Driver Program took part in a recent panel discussion hosted by WMUR-TV to discuss distractions, impaired driving, and the impacts of speeding on road safety. As Lexi told moderator Katherine Underwood, adolescents and young adults often don't consider the risks of reckless driving.
