"SHOW ME the evidence is an effort to achieve consensus on where have we got to and what our sense of what the future needs to look like if we are going to reliably get evidence to those who need it," said John N. Lavis, Global Evidence Commission co-lead. Learn more >> https://lnkd.in/dtVRrr5D
Global Commission on Evidence to Address Societal Challenges
Higher Education
Armed with the world’s best evidence, decision-makers can more effectively respond to societal challenges
About us
The Global Commission on Evidence to Address Societal Challenges will produce recommendations (by December 2021) and pursue ‘pathways to influence’ (in the first half of 2022) to strengthen the use of evidence by decision-makers – be they government policymakers, organizational leaders, professionals, or citizens – in addressing societal challenges, both in routine times and in future global crises. COVID-19 has created a once-in-a-generation focus on evidence among governments, businesses and non-governmental organizations, many types of professionals, and citizens. Their decisions have shaped the pandemic response and will shape responses to future societal challenges. The Evidence Commission has already made available many of its exhibits for feedback and for use in advocating for better positioning us to respond to societal challenges.

John N. Lavis, co-lead of the Global Evidence Commission, recently met with staff and senior leaders of Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) to share ideas on how to advance policy evaluation and evidence-based policymaking in the Ministry and across government. Ministry officials shared details of current initiatives being undertaken by the MIC, following which John shared insights from the Commission’s work and examples from other countries. They also discussed a number of key challenges to evidence and evaluation, including responsible guidance for the use of AI.

"The world is poised for a step-change improvement in how we use evidence to address societal challenges" We have just co-published the "SHOW ME the evidence consensus", which outlines an approach to reliably getting research evidence to those who need it. Take a look at the Environmental Evidence editorial here: https://lnkd.in/ei2cu5qF With contributions from 100+ experts in evidence synthesis, this editorial sets a clear path forward. It introduces SHOW ME the evidence—a set of six key features that will guide us in delivering research evidence effectively and equitably to those who need it most. These features include: 🔹 Support for local systems that integrate diverse research evidence to meet community priorities. 🔹 Harmonized global efforts to enhance learning and sharing worldwide. 🔹 Open-science practices that encourage building on previous work. 🔹 Waste reduction to optimise research investments. 🔹 Measured communication to clarify existing evidence and its limitations. 🔹 Equity and efficiency embedded in all approaches. This article has been simultaneously co-published with The Campbell Collaboration's Campbell Systematic Reviews, Cochrane's Clinical and Public Health Guidelines, Cochrane Library, and JBI EVIDENCE IMPLEMENTATION. Indigenous elders, community members and scholars have long called for greater reliance on culturally relevant ways of knowing and doing. We partnered with the Indigenous Health Learning Lodge McMaster University as well as Cochrane and World Health Organization’s Evidence-informed Policy Network (EVIPNet) for our latest webinar to co-create space for discussions about Indigenous rights and ways of knowing and where there may be synergies with efforts to put evidence at the centre of everyday life. Breakthroughs happen when enough well-positioned individuals choose to put some of their political and social capital on the line. If you’re attending the 8th Global Symposium on Health Systems Research, help place evidence at the centre of the discussion https://lnkd.in/gKsDKtqe #HSR2024
