OptFor-EU explored innovative #forest management practices across Austria, Romania, and Italy, studying how they respond to different #climate scenarios. 📣 Climate Change and Forests: New scientific papers from our partners ❗ The three studies reveal critical insights into the vulnerability of different #tree species and the devastating consequences of #extremeweather events. 🌳 The first study focuses on the #allometric models of European beech trees, highlighting the significance of accurate branch surface area estimation for understanding tree functions and ecological processes. 🌲The second study compares the #drought tolerance of early-successional and late-successional tree species across Europe, revealing the superior #resilience of early-successional species to climate-induced disturbances. 🌧️ The third study investigates the causes and impacts of the devastating #floods in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, in May 2023, emphasizing the need to address the increasing frequency and intensity of such extreme weather events in the context of #climatechange. 🌱 Jornada Participativa: Modelo Integral de #Gestión #Agroforestal en el Valle del #Árrago 🌱 🌍 Este lunes en Descargamaria, iniciativas como RESIST Project, GOClimaForest, OptFor-EU y nuestro proyecto FIREPOCTEP+ se unieron para explorar nuevos modelos de gestión agroforestal sostenible. 🔥 Ignacio Higuero, consejero de Gestión Forestal y Mundo Rural, y JOSE ANTONIO BAYÓN CARVAJAL, director general de Prevención y Extinción de Incendios, destacaron la necesidad de tener “bosques sostenibles, que generen vida y fijen población” para prevenir #incendios. We explored the challenges and opportunities for enhancing forest-based carbon removals. Key Findings: 🎯 Alignment with Climate Goals: Most #stakeholders believe their institutions are aligned with current climate mitigation goals. 🌳 Resource Needs: Increased resources and funding are crucial for effective climate mitigation efforts. 🌴 Forest Management Knowledge: Information on #forestmanagement is essential. 🌲 Forest Resilience: Enhancing forest resilience through #biodiversity and carbon sink strategies is a priority. 🚧 Barriers: Language barriers, data limitations, economic constraints, and governance issues hinder progress.
