  • Last month, our partners at Austek Roads successfully laid 1,260 tonnes of asphalt using Puma Bitumen’s AC14 A15E CarbonBind® in the Rockwood Drive road project in Ormeau. When we inquired about their choice of CarbonBind®, Austek’s response was simple:   “The question is: why wouldn’t you use an A15E that is better for the environment, while not sacrificing any performance properties?”   To date, 196,800 kg of CO2 has been locked within the City of Gold Coast's road network, due to Austek Roads' use of CarbonBind®.   CarbonBind® uses organic, plant-derived materials to partially replace conventional, oil-refined bitumen; acting as a carbon sink that permanently locks away atmospheric CO2 emissions within the pavement structure. This innovative solution maintains operational efficiency and quality.   The upgraded Rockwood Drive has enhanced safety standards regarding fuming and odor, all while delivering outstanding performance. Feedback has only been positive from those who get to drive along it!   Want to learn more about CarbonBind®? Stay up-to-date What you need to know about the QLD DTMR's update to Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA). 🔺 QLD DTMR has developed a strategic roadmap aimed at increasing the use of WMA while phasing out traditional hot mix. The primary goal is to support decarbonisation efforts, reduce fumes and odours, and enable more efficient multilayer construction across projects. 🔺 Warm mix additives are a mandatory part of all new contacts. 🔺 Tech Note 148 states that any new WMA additives introduced in Queensland must meet new requirements before approval to be used. Puma Bitumen is the exclusive supplier of Anova® in Australia - a non-toxic WMA made from bio-based chemicals. Anova® allows for compaction at up to a 40-degree lower temperature, significantly reducing energy use and GHG emissions. • Approximately 474 tonnes of AC14 A15E CarbonBind® has been used as part of Austek Roads' Helensvale Road Project, upgrading a vital segment of Queensland’s road network.   CarbonBind® is a revolutionary product made from organic, plant-derived materials that partially replaces conventional, oil-refined bitumen. By acting as a carbon sink, CarbonBind® permanently locks away atmospheric CO2 emissions within the pavement structure, all while maintaining high operational efficiency and quality. In total, 196,800 kg of CO2 has been sequestered across Austek Roads' projects within the City of Gold Coast road network.   This upgrade has significantly enhanced the road's performance integrity, while also reducing wear on equipment. Moreover, the project has effectively addressed safety concerns related to fuming and odor, leading to positive feedback from motorists.   Thank you to the team at Austek Roads, for your continued commitment to CarbonBind® and for your dedication to improving our environment without sacrificing quality.   Interested in learning more about CarbonBind®? • Today, we are announcing a change to our operational footprint in Australia. From 1 March 2025, Puma Bitumen will cease PMB production at our Altona facility in Victoria. This decision has been made to ensure our commercial strategy in Australia continues to respond effectively to market needs. Our global R&D Centre of Excellence at Altona will continue to operate at full capacity, supporting our Australian and global bitumen business. The decision is not reflective of our broader Puma Bitumen business and our commitment to innovation and excellence in production and supply of bituminous road binders remains stronger than ever. We look forward to the continued strengthening of our portfolio in Australia by focusing our attention on growing and investing in our five import and production facilities that fully represent our market and supply chain strengths. For more information about the Altona terminal you can read our full statement here: https://lnkd.in/gZZJEi7z

  • Last week Puma Bitumen proudly celebrated 60 years of dedication to Tasmania's road industry. Friday the 20th marked a significant milestone, as we reflected on six decades of unwavering commitment to paving Tasmania’s roads with bitumen supplied through our Selfs Point terminal in Hobart.   We commemorated this achievement with a pre-event at the TAS Industry Awards Gala in Hobart, hosted by the Australian Flexible Pavement Association (AfPA). Experience the event for yourself, including the historical artefacts our very own Terminal Manager, Adrian Short, collected throughout his 23 years managing the facility   Here’s to the next 60 years.   #PumaBitumen #60YearsStrong #TasmanianRoads

Puma Bitumen's Hobart Terminal commemorated its 60th anniversary today with an exclusive pre-gala event at the 2024 AfPA Industry Awards Gala Dinner. As Tasmania's sole bulk bitumen import facility, the Hobart Terminal has supplied bitumen since 1964. It became part of Puma Energy in 2015, following the acquisition of BP Australia's bitumen business. The event, themed ‘A Walk Back in Time,’ showcased six artefacts from the terminal’s 60-year history, curated by Hobart Terminal Manager Adrian Short. These fascinating pieces highlight a history that extends well beyond Short's 23-year tenure.
