↔️ As the year is reaching its end, we would like to take this moment to reflect on the incredible achievements it brought for the R2COM project: ✔Two successful training events, gathering NGOs and post-release professionals from Albania, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Hungary, Kosovo, Portugal and Sweden ✔A fully tested and validated vulnerability assessment tool for radicalisation and extremist engagement to be used during the prison-community transition ✔Two successfully piloted online courses, with over 150 certified professionals, on how to prevent radicalisation in post-release settings and when working with vulnerable groups ✔A complete and comprehensive case management manual to support vulnerable persons and those within extremist milieus towards integration and stabilisation ✔Nomination for best Research and Evaluation project of the year in the ESN European Social Services Awards 🤍As we wrap up this year, it is undeniable that all these achievements are the direct result of the R2COM partners, but also, and mostly, of the incredible network of practitioners established! 🤝We stand together in the commitment to build safer and more empowered communities, where vulnerabilities are addressed in a non-securitised manner and through a positive lens, looking for solutions to promote integration, growth and development, individually, locally and collectively. 🫶Thank you for being part of the R2COM project in 2024! We look forward to what 2025 will bring!

Promoting the involvement of NGOs in P/CVE, especially in the aftercare of newly released individuals
About us
R2COM aims to foster and enhance the involvement of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE), especially in the follow-up/aftercare provision of newly released individuals. The initiative will pursue this by improving the competencies of NGOs’ professionals in the area with sustainable, tailor-made, and needs-oriented training programmes. Hence, R2COM intends to improve the management of individuals prone to radicalisation by increasing the success of NGOs’ interventions. It will also promote cooperation and the establishment of dynamic synergies amongst NGOs in the EU and beyond.

💡Do you work in exit work or with vulnerable groups? Then this is for you! As previously promised, we present you the R2COM handbook, which helps practitioners identify, prevent and respond to involvement in violent extremism. Authored by Transform, this complete handbook has two major sections: 📍Part 1: Setting the scene: What to know about radicalisation and violent extremism 📍Part 2: How to act and support towards prevention and stabilisation 👉Its differentiating feature: This handbook was written by and for practitioners! Furthermore, it was validated across Europe directly with civil society and P/CVE experts. By delving into the fundamentals of radicalisation, its ideological features, risk, vulnerability and protective factors, this handbook provides practical tips on how to engage and support those vulnerable to radicalisation, but also, those in the process of leaving the extremist milieu behind. ↔️ This handbook validates the R2COM commitment to support professionals in their work with vulnerable persons, by prioritising preventive work, that respects the beneficiary and their dignity, mobilising the local setting as an asset for stabilisation! Read it now and let us know what you think.

R2COM project - Radicalisation and Violent Extremism Prevention in the Community reposted this
This week in Canberra for the National CVE Workshop and Roundtable meeting with the CTCC and Department of Home Affairs. I had the opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues from across Australia and New Zealand. It was inspiring to see the CVE approaches developed. My contribution covered experiences from European initiatives on exit work, online interventions, and conversation techniques. As well as the INDEX Network and promoting the R2COM handbook. Lot's of great conversations. INDEX 💻https://lnkd.in/dHP-pWda R2COM 💻 https://lnkd.in/dh7ATj_a R2COM project - Radicalisation and Violent Extremism Prevention in the Community

✨ 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝟐𝐂𝐎𝐌 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭! As we await to find out the results of the European Social Services Awards (ESSA), we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted for R2COM and to all those who have supported the project along the way. We are immensely proud of this nomination and even prouder of the significant impact the project has made. Through a carefully cultivated network of members, and a diverse range of organisations, R2COM has connected professionals across Europe, creating a supportive community dedicated to positive reintegration. The project has also delivered specialised training to practitioners, equipping them with skills to navigate complex challenges in their work, and to support community resilience efforts. Among other achievements, R2COM’s TV-RAT Vulnerability Assessment Tool, which provides practitioners with an effective resource for identifying and addressing risk factors, and the project’s comprehensive case-management manual, are invaluable resources in guiding professionals in structured and empathetic care for those they assist. 👏 That’s why, regardless of the result, we are happy to be one of the ESSA-nominated initiatives, among many other efforts to meet the social, economic, and cultural needs of communities in Europe. Thank you all for your support! 🙌 🔗 To learn more about R2COM, visit www.r2com-project.eu #R2COM #ESSA2024 #EuropeanSocialServicesAwards #CommunitySafety

💡𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝟐𝐂𝐎𝐌 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬? 𝐈𝐟 𝐧𝐨𝐭, 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮! Looking at the 2024-25 European Commission Strategic Orientations on a Coordinated EU Approach to the Prevention of Radicalisation (https://lnkd.in/gnburzUH), we see how radicalisation remains a priority for the EU, highligthing some new trends, namely how ideological differences are getting blurred, especially within the online world. However, this key document also presents some priorities to work on, namely: 👉 New forms of extremism and the role of conspiracy theories 👉Prevention of radicalisation in prison, probation, post release and during reintegraton stages 👉New technologies and online dimensions 👉Local manifestations of radicalisation and polarisation Then, how is the R2COM relevant? 📌We are directly answering two of these priorities (#2, #4), by focusing on preventing and mitigating radicalisation and extremist engagement when transitioning from prison to community, but also the by mobilising a whole-of-society approach towards prevention, with the moto “local action, big impact”. ✔In fact, and quoting this document directly, “it [is] crucial to focus on education and resilience building of communities, improving abilities for early detection”, and this has been the focus of the R2COM project for the past 3 years! As a result, we have: 🤝Built a network of European practitioners, working together to build safer communities 🗳Developed a co-produced and co-validated non-securitised vulnerability assessment framework to assess radicalisation and extremist engagement in post-release settings 🖐 Capacitated European practitioners on P/CVE and community empowerment 🗣Created a case management manual for post-release and NGO practitioners to use when working with radicalised or vulnerable persons Stay tuned, as very soon we will share this manual with you, ensuring the sustained impact of the R2COM project!

🔎How can civil society professionals support and assist disengagement efforts? 📌𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻: When trying to influence someone, especially in greater vulnerable positions, an effort must be made to understand them -> Get to know the person you want to support. Despite its popularity in the generic crime prevention field, this approach’s transferability to the P/CVE field is challenged by its potential sensitive security implications. Nevertheless, most of the work to be conducted with persons within extremist milieus or vulnerable to radicalisation should benefit from the extensive track record of crime prevention efforts. 👉Let’s see some methods that can be applied: 🚦Motivational interviewing 🚦Mentoring 🚦Autobiographical reconstruction 🚦Cognitive-behavioural therapy 📌 Within such a rich field, the 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 is: ✔To promote disengagement from radical and extremist milieus, the door for change should never be closed, working to enhance strengths, mobilising protective factors, this way diminishing vulnerabilities. This work must be achieved when working on a 1-1 basis, but also locally, mobilising communities as vehicles for stabilisation! 🤔Sounds interesting? Then stay tuned, as the R2COM case-management handbook, developed by our Swedish colleagues from Transform, will be released this week!
