The Schroders South Africa team joined forces with the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation’s Ocean Campus for a family Trash Bash beach cleanup day on Saturday 2 November. Together we collected over 130kg of rubbish off the Muizenberg beach in Cape Town, from straws, plastic wrappers and yoghurt containers to decayed shoes, coffee cups, glass, and bottle tops. It was astounding to see just how much litter could be found on a small portion of a beach which is widely considered relatively clean already. The Foundation also organised various activities for the families and learners who joined us for the cleanup, including a tug-of-war and a puppet show. An appearance by Nemo, the Foundation’s mascot, was a huge hit among the young and old. We hope the experience was as eye-opening and impactful for all involved as it was for the Schroders South Africa team (who will never be able to walk past a stray piece of rubbish again!)
