What is Arexvy respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine, and what is it used for?

Arexvy (respiratory syncytial virus [RSV] vaccine, adjuvanted) is a vaccine indicated for active immunization for the prevention of lower respiratory tract disease (LRTD) caused by respiratory syncytial virus.

Arexvy is a sterile suspension for intramuscular injection approved for use in individuals 60 years of age and older. It is not approved for use in persons younger than 60 years of age. Arexvy induces an immune response against RSVpreF3 that protects against LRTD caused by RSV.

Warnings

Arexvy should not be administered to anyone with a history of a severe allergic reaction (e.g., anaphylaxis) to any component of Arexvy.

Syncope (fainting) may occur after administration of injectable vaccines, such as Arexvy. Procedures should be in place to avoid injury from fainting.

Immunocompromised persons, including those receiving immunosuppressive therapy, may have a diminished immune response to Arexvy.
